The only thing I can think is that him plus Cisse up front is something they want to move away from.

Hasn't he also got a glass knee?
Stoke didn't sign him for that reason, but he's since passed medicals for both West Ham and Newcastle and not been injured at either club.

As far as I can tell, him + Cisse is probably a more sensible thing to stick to than him + Bent.

I was thinking more in terms of "why would Newcastle want to let hm go".

He has a release clause and everybody knows about it thanks to Gobshite Redknapp. So Newcastle may have no choice if you can convince Ba to leave.

Apparently £7m as long as he leaves before the end of July.

Can anyone think of a single logical reason why Ba would come to us?

Money. If we gave him Heskey's wages and no one bettered it he'd probably come here. Same way we got Bent.

Ba can play wide but he wants to play in the exact position Cisse is and the class of Ben Arfa dictates they can only play with one centre forward. Ba has a dodgy knee, has lost momentum and tends to move about alot so I'd assume they'd much rather let him go than Cisse (regardless of release clause).

If he feels undervalued and he can get 15-20k more by moving here, as well as playing through the middle, why wouldn't he?

FWIW, I don't think it'll happen, he'd get better money than that elsewhere if he was off and I doubt we'd pay it.

I heard Bent was having it away with Steve Bruce's daughter, who still lived in Brum.

That's slightly misleading, he never passed a medical at stoke because he came with a 9 million price tag, at West Ham and Newcastle he was a free transfer, which is a risk much more appealing than if there's a huge fee.

Stoke seem to think it was just the medical that was the problem - clicky

And West Ham paid Hoffenheim a transfer fee when he moved, he wasn't a free transfer.

The way Pulis worded it about the problem is that it's a problem that wasn't there yet, but only a matter of time. I know Ba played a full season last term, but if he's a ticking timebomb I'd rather avoid. It may also be that the signing of Cisse was pre-emptive.
Dunno, maybe the Toon will want Ba for one more season, but they'll have problems getting rid if he stays and his knee goes out.

I also remember reading somewhere that Pardew brought in Cisse to make Newcastle a little more appealing to Ba so he wouldn't want to leave.  He wanted to make it a little more homely for the French players too and was looking for someone that would help keep Cabaye happy and settled as well.

I know I'll be in the minority here, but I'm not too convinced about either Ba or Cisse.  They've had half a good season each at Newcastle, but that was in a team playing very well.  I can't help but think they'll continue to be decent, but never quite hit the heights that they are now known for.

That, plus the injury question mark over him, would lead me to sayign 'No thanks' to Ba.

If Lambert is looking for a hold-up man up front, I wouldn't be surprised if we were one of the clubs in for Steven Fletcher. It's an area along with central defence that I think we'll strengthen in and Fletcher knows all about the Premier league, right sort of an age and is different to what we've already got.

That's a joke right?  Don't Wolves want 10mill quid for that aging streak of piss?  We could probably buy somebody decent for that price.  I'd rather have Emule back.  Jesus, I can't believe I just typed those words.

If Fletcher moves this summer, I'd be amazed if it were to anywhere other than MartinO'Neill'sSunderland.
