Doumbia and Brahami would be a nice double-deal.

we are turning into the new Arsenal ;)

Not a bad template to use.

I think by selling all of their best players in recent years they're turning into us! But it would be nice for us to find young players across Europe and turn them into proven talent.

thats what I meant Toronto  ;)

Gabby has never had the touch or ball control to link play. To be frank as much as we love him he is finished as a top league performer. About 3 years ago he developed lot of muscle that stood him good for a season or two but now he is losing pace and that was his biggest asset. Defenders have worked him out and thats not too difficult. He can not fit into our team with Bent. We must play for Bent next season. I doubt it if he can transform into a more subtle intelligent forward like Dublin or Withe do I repeat if we can get some money go for it now.

Why do people feel the need to reach such black and white conclusions? Players are always either 'not good enough' or 'brilliant'.

Up to November / December last year, the concept that Gabby was finished would have been absurd. He seemed resurgent. He'd got something like 7 goals and 7 assists in 15-20 games. Including some of the best goals I've ever seen him score. His performance in the Chelsea away game was excellent.

Ever since then, he was pretty damn bad. And I personally hope he's not starting at the beginning of the season because I hope we have better / more in form options.

But to say he's finished is over the top in my view.

Agree with what you say.

At the time of the Chelsea away match last season, the talk on here was of getting rid of Bent as Gabby was better in that role.  Gabby's form at the back end of the season was not helped by the pdestrian way we went forward with the ball or the hopeless long balls from the back.

Didn't agree with comments about Bent last season and do not agree now with getting rid of Gabby based on what we saw at the end of the season.

I'd rather get rid of the Fonz and send Wiemann out on loan for a season.  Gabby hasn't been great in the last two seasons but stuck in a position he probably doesn't like, I'm not suprised. If MONderland come up with ten mill then fair enough, but anything less and I'd keep him. Perhaps on the bench a bit more and come on in the last twenty for the likes of Darren Bent. At the moment, Gabby isn't worth his place in the side if we play with three midfielders in behind Bent, but that doesn't mean I'd let Gabby go, unless we have a much better replacement lined up.

Gabby depends on what is coming in. If we sign another forward in a strong, powerful, fairly quick mode that can hold it up, then Gabby may be finding it difficult to get in.

1 up top was employed by Lambert a lot too.

If we get Doumbia and Brahimi from Rennes we are in dreamland. Get in a left back, centre half and striker too and we will have been well and truly rebuilt this summer, but the players going out will need to fetch some money.

Hutton, Warnock, Collins, Makoun, Delph and Gabby must all be under real threat to raise some funds.

Nice to have a manager who appears to be pro active in the market though.

Could we not get Bertrand on loan? It's not like he'll get loads of games ahead of Cole

According to one of the Sunday's today, Di Matteo has been quoted as saying he wants to keep him and play him in the cups whilst resting Cole. I only saw him play in the CL final and he looked out of his depth but that's not to say he's not a fine player.

He is a LB but was played LW in the CL final, so it wasn't really surprising that he struggled.  Can't really see Chelsea selling him, but maybe we could get him on loan.

Rumours all over that Brahimi has signed for us
According to wikipedia his current club is Aston Villa. Yes, yes I know, not the most reliable source.

The same thing happened before Lowton signed.

Hope the Brahimi thing is true. He looks a promising player. Could be our new Ashley Young, without the diving hopefully. He does seem to have a bit more about him too. Very skillful on the ball. He'll be good to watch and probably frustrating as hell too.

In which case, no thanks. I don't want to be a feeder club, developing players for that bunch of scum

Fair enough Richard and I am hoping we bring in a permanent signing in that position this summer.  If we don't though, a loan signing would at least give Stevens a bit more time to develop and would allow us the chance to scour the market for a quality signing.

A loan or two is not the end of the day and buys time. There must be a couple of up and coming left backs in the championship though?

Don't we have very highly regarded right and left backs coming through the youth system that might only need a season or two before they're ready to compete for places in the full squad?

Has it been decided already that Enda Stevens isn't Premier League calibre ?

I'd be surprised if he made it. The full back positions were where we looked a little light judging by the nextgen games.
