Has anyone else noticed that we are being linked with the same players as MON all of a sudden, I'd take it with a pinch of salt, If he is coming anywhere he's comin here :-)
The press have us in a group that includes Everton, Sunderland etc and they link us all to similar range of players just like they have Chelsea, Manu and city in one group and usually link them with the same player say like van persie and Schneider etc.

I'd be happy to take Paul Sharner on a free to be honest. He wants to play CB by all accounts and we could do with someone in that position.

No one seems to want to play Scharner at centre back. There must be a reason for that?

Its because he's not very good at it. He's either a decent but unspectacular defensive midfielder or he's nothing.

If Scharner comes in then that must surely close the debate on whether Makoun's staying.

Where is all this talk of Scharner coming in coming from? I've not seen a solid link.

I was just about to say that...I think its just PaulMcGrathsNo5Shirt saying that he'd be a decent signing on a free so nothing to worry about hopefully! I very much doubt PL would even be slightly interested in a 32 year old average player even if he is available on a free.

Obviously the Gabby to Swans rumor is a complete load of bull. The fee is too low and he would not fit their system in the least. Granted Rodgers is gone now but Gabby can't hold up the ball and possess, he can't pass and he struggles to finish. I don't think he'd be a very good fit at Swansea. I'd like to see him stay, until next January at least..

I remember Paul Sharner saying he wants to play in midfield, not CB. I like him though.

I think if we got £5m it would be a good price personally but i cannot see why swansea would want him to be honest, maybe he would fit in on wearside under mon and his style of play.

Gabby wasn't the only player to under perform last year, indeed up to Jan he was probably our best player. If anyone deserves our patience its him, I wouldn't sell for 10m let alone 5, an on-form Gabby would cost megabucks to replace.

Is that what is known as a ringing endorsement?

I think selling Gabby for £5m at this time would be a bit of bad business. The club have invested a lot of money, time and facilities in developing him over the years and now he is heading into his peak years at the age of 25 and people are talking about letting him go.

Admittedly he has had 2 bad seasons but prior to them he was an improving player.

11/12 P36 G6 A5 AML
10/11 P31 G4 A1 GH
09/10 P49 G16 A7 MON
08/09 P47 G12 A6 MON
07/08 P38 G11 A8 MON
06/07 P42 G10 A7 MON
05/06 P09 G01 A1 DOL

Is it coincidence that a player who's goal per season was increasing year on year, who had played in Europe for his club, had played for England suddenly stopped improving when the manager who had managed him through most of his first team football left and then 2 new managers managed him over 2 consecutive seasons that he played poorly and his goal scoring decreased dramatically.

If MON hadn't left and was still with us we may of seen Gabby's goal tallies increase further from 10, 11, 12, 16 and could possibly have a 18/20 goal player getting ready to start a new season and setting himself a target to improve again. Would people even consider selling him for £5m if that was the case?

Lambert isn't MON but his arrival has brought a similar energy to when MON arrived and he is the type of manager that will take Gabby and play him to his strengths, as MON did, to get the best out of him and hitting double figure goal tallies again.

Selling Gabby now isn't the right time and £5m isn't the right price. We need to hold on to him and see if Lambert can get him back on track and hitting the net again, even if he can't get him up to a 18/20 goal tally he must be able to get him scoring more than the 6 & 4 he got the last couple of seasons, which will increase his sale ability - if Lambert decides he can't get him back on track - and not just sell him to MON now for £5m and let him pick up where he left off and get him knocking in goals again, some of which could be against us.

Plus his goal on the opening day against Blackburn was class.

I still believe he's a good player, he just needs to find that form. He has enough credit in the bank to deserve it too from us all.
I hope the rumours are bollocks and I really hope PL can spark him up again.
