Mat Kendrick reckons we're looking at Sheffield United right back/centre half/defensive midfielder/gas fitter/signwriter/special constable Matthew Lowton.

I got halfway through that description and thought we were about to sign Joe Cocker

Sounds like a utility squad player, which is always useful to have!

Les Arse won't like loosing Van Persie, they will have to flog him soon to make a few bob out of him. Would they see Bent as a replacement I wonder? Bent would score shit loads if he was in a good team. Anyway, just said I'd throw that one out there.
But as a direct replacement I reckon Sturridge would be the man, if he can recover from his illness.

After reading their squad list, I suppose Podolski and Giroud could do a job for them as well.

Well that's that sorted then.

Wenger would never go after Bent. He would insist on more all round craft in a player.

It seems RVP and Arsenal differ over how they see the future. RVP sees the future as being paid a quarter of a million pounds a week (even though he's never spoken to other parties....itchy beard) and winning everything available and Arsenal... don't.

Bent isn't that good a footballer so I doubt Wenger would go for him. I think he likes his forwards to have a better all round game. Well, he tries to anyway, he has signed some crap in the past however... (not saying Bent is crap!)

Would appear here was on Norwich radar before bertie moved on.  Sheff united forum reckon he is excellent going forward, but not great defensively.

RVP will always love Arsenal, they will have a special place in his heart but this love is not enough to compete with the the vast wad of cash he will now have to stack away in a more special place.

At 29 with his injury history you can hardly blame arsenal. Stupid I'd they don't cash in and buy a replacement though.

....

I didn't now he was ill.

I can't see any way that Sturridge would ever become a Villa player other than as a clapped out 28-30 year old with big money moves on his CV but never quite made it anywhere  - if that is indeed how his career develops.

I would hope that we have left those days behind us.

I could say I hope I am wrong, he is a good player. But I hope I am right. Sturridge seems to want to maximise his earning potential - he would want a big deal. It will be some time before we as a club can properly accommodate that, by which time he will be the wrong age group anyway.

RvP turns 29 at his next birthday (I think) so this is his last contract at a top club.  There’s no way the Arsenal could or should spunk loads of money in the short term to please RvP, however the player could have handled the press release better.

You’d have thought the agents would write such statements and therefore the content could be less provocative (rather than blaming the board in a childish way of removing himself of blame).

Going for Sturridge without losing Bent makes sense to me as they could easily play together.
His options are limited and getting more so at Chelsea and though he'll have some big clubs after him, if we could see him as a good bet to throw resources at I think it could pay off handsomely. Plus it grates me we let him go in the first place.

We seem to be making some clever moves and looking at good value for money (and long may that contimue) but if I was Randy I'd be thinking; "make a splash or two and this wave of renewed optimism will become tidal."

If Wenger wanted Bent he wouldn't have brought Podolski and the other one.
