Given looked far from fit in Euros, may well be Guzan will begin and Shay will get fit to challenge, unless of course there is an offer in which he could'nt refuse, USA, Celtic?, easier life at his age with his known injury problems, in which case Guzan makes a lot of sense., with the swiss lad [in Olympics] as no.2.

In my opinion Guzan is potentially the better keeper in the next 12 months, commands his area better and has genuine quality. I reckon next summer Given will be moving on with Guzan taking the jersey.

Does anyone know anything about this Brahimi?

The talented 22-year-old is a playmaker or winger, originally schooled at Clairefontaine before going through the youth system at Paris St Germain and Rennes.

Brahimi, who made his first-team debut for Rennes in 2009, has played for France at every age group from Under-16 to Under-21 - although he could yet switch his international allegiance to Algeria.

Club wise Brahimi has admitted he is ready to leave Rennes after starting just six league games last season, despite being regarded very highly.

"They do not count on me at Rennes," he told RMC.

"With the style of play there are times where I don't play - our relationship is broken now and I have reached the point of no return."

Borussia Monchengladbach and Sochaux have both been strongly linked, but French sources claim that Paul Lambert is keen to snap him up and has made an offer to loan the player for a season with a view to a permanent deal next summer.

underland are willing to take a chance on Stephen Ireland.

The midfielder was regarded as one of the best talents in the country whilst at Manchester City, but he has struggled to find his best form in recent times.

Ireland, who had a loan spell at Newcastle United in 2010-11, did impress term at Aston Villa, where supporters voted him Player of the Year.

However, the future of the 25-year-old remains uncertain, particularly following reports that Martin O’Neill is keen to take him to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats boss made good progress upon replacing Steve Bruce last season, and he would look to take the Villa star for £5million.

The player who's arrival, apparently without MON's knowledge, as part exchange for Milner led to him leaving the Villa and suing the club for constructive dismissal?  I find that unlikely myself.

I know that Youtube can make players look great by compiling their best bits in a short montage but some of the things this lad did on the video I saw were incredible.

Yeah, hugely skillful player and with a decent shot on him by the looks of it.  Would be an exciting sort of signing for sure.  Hope it's not a load of rubbish.

A lot of people seem to think MON had lined up the Milner/Ireland deal before he left.  Truth is none of us know, and probably never will, the full and true story behind his resignation and subsequent tribunal.

And Brahimi might make more sense if Ireland were to leave.  That way, Holman could play central behind Bent and he'd be fighting for the wide positions with N'Zog and Super Marc.

I don't know if you're right about MON wanting Ireland or not, but I would rather us keep him tbh.  He showed sign of his best form in a shocking team last season and hopefully under a new manager who gets the whole club pulling in the same direction can really get the best out of him on a consistent basis.  Also, I think what you just said may leave us short in the middle.  If (big if at this point) we sign Brahimi I'd rather him be Marc's replacement because I hope to be proved wrong but I don't think he's going to cut it at the level I want to see us at.

Holman has a reputation as a worker, so with him ahead of say Al Ahmadi and Makoun, I think we'd be pretty solid in the centre.

I have no desire to see Ireland leave either, just speculating as to how the two stories seem more plausible if considered together.

I like Marc, but I think this is a make or break season for him.

Well, unless your assumption about the reason for MON's leaving is incorrect.

Only think to bear in mind with Makoun, El Ahmadi and Holman as our midfield is two of them have never played in the PL, and one has a handful of appearances.

I too don't see the point in flogging Ireland after we've finally started getting something out of him.
