Looks like Guzan is coming back to Villa.
Think this is good news. A good pro. He is close to being a very good keeper and is certainly a good back-up.

According to sky sports and the Daily Mail, Villa are after Rennes midfielder Yacine Brahimi for approx 2.5m.

Guzan will only come back once he has received assurances that he'll get first team football.

That's interesting I wonder what's changed.

Maybe Lambert has said he can fight it out with Shay for the number one? I think that is fair enough after Given's Euro performance but slightly harsh considering how well he played in, for example, the West Brom game.

Wasn't Given carrying an injury in the Euros? That's what it looked like (he didn't seem his usual self)

I would start Given this season, if he seems unfit or is just shit, then it's time to give Guzan a run. He's never let us down.

He's bought some really big gloves.

Guzan never really seemed ready for regular first team football until last season, after which TSM put Given back in once fit again.  I agree he wasn't fit at the Euros, so what we should be saying to Guzan is it's now a level playing field, so although Shay starts as No1, if you come in and play well again you'll keep your place.

I think he was rushed back and looked unfit. But, what was most worrying was his dip in confidence. Coming out saying he needed to consider his international future seemed to me that his performances had got to him.

Listen, I've been one of Given's staunchest defenders on this forum and even got myself in bother for saying he was 'world class' still, but all things being equal Guzan is also good and it is now up to Shay to prove that he still has what it takes. If he's good enough Shay will have nothing to worry about and should be able for the young pretender's challenge.

Given rushed back for the Euro, which I can understand as it was always going to be his last chance at a top level of international football.

He could be on the decline, which why I think bringing Guzan back is a good idea.

would love Guzan to re sign for us, always liked him. a lot better than all the goalies we were linked to for up to 5 mill in my view

i can see Given starting the season as no1 and Guzan finishing the season as no 1

And which is why sticking Given on a £50k five year contract was a bad idea.
