Apparently we are in for Crystal Palace defender Nethaniel Clyne.  It's thought he was on his way to West Ham but he's coming to Villa.

I wonder if  PL would consider to risk a young back 4 in:
Lichaj, Clark, Baker and Stevens behind a strong, energetic and experienced midfield?

3 first have experience and Stevens looks pretty good in the reserves, although I admit that I haven't seen him play apart from on AVTV

We'd get absolutely destroyed.

I would expect paul to strengthen the back 4 before the season starts and maybe even a centra half and two new full backs, the players mentioned are useful back up options but not 1st choices in my opinion, apart from clark who is probably ready for it.

Is that confirmed? Would be very pleased with clyne.

Brave   .... but probably foolish.
I think Clark and Lichaj are ready for a regular slot in defence but only if we have two very experienced other defenders that can play a bit.
Longer-term, I'd love to see Clark, Lichaj and Baker in a back three. Can't comment on Stevens since I've never seen him play.

Agree with that Eastie.  There's an interview with Martin Laursen in today's Evening Mail in which he says that strengthening central defence is a priority this summer.  Like you, I personally think that if we offload Collins or Dunne then we only really need one new CB and that the full-back areas are the priority.

Cheers, i remember clyne looked very good against us in the cup a few yrs ago, i expected warnock to snap him up for qpr but would be very happy with clyne .

If you're talking about playing the piano in the Holte Suite prior to and after games then fine but please don't go suggesting that he should be let anywhere near a football field in a Villa shirt.  The guy has just finished a multi million pound contract at Spurs where he splashed about in a paddling pool five days a week and put in a few minutes on an exercise bike each day.  Talk about money for old rope, he is the epitome.  Not his fault but true all the same.

Suggesting King is like suggesting Laursen.  Both good defenders, but both can't play again due to injury.

I see your point.  But he still managed 20+ games last season.  If we could get him to play once a week it might be a decent signing.

The last centre half we signed that was 30+ and on the verge of retirement didnt work out too badly.

Paul Mcgrath did exactly the same.
