As someone else has already said, if Whittingham hadn't already played for us everyone would be excited at the prospect of a midfielder who has scored 50 goals the past 3 seasons and has been voted by many as the best player in the championship.

I'd love him back.

Please count me out of "everyone". Whenever I've seen him play in the Championship he's been OK plus the goals he's scored (and those can't be scoffed at, I'll admit), but whenever he's come up against the better Championship or Premier League sides he's disappeared from midfield like Harry Potter in his nifty cloak.

Lambert may be able work some magic on him, and I won't deny the possibility of him improving since he left Villa but the fact remains that despite his scoring record with Cardiff, and despite Cardiff being utterly cash-strapped (until this summer), no-one else has thought him worth a punt.

So what's the current update. Nursey said we're after a right back, left back, centre back, centre mid, wide man and centre forward?

Right back: Clyne, Gunter, Naughton
Left back: Simon Poulsen
Centre half: ?
Centre mid - El Ahmadi
Wide player: Whittingham
Centre forward: ?

Center Mid - Howson?

I live in Croydon when in the UK and Palace fans rave about him as does the local press. he is destined for better things and I think he would be a cracking signing. it also means the end of the aberration that is Hutton.

I don't suppose that Lambert wants Whittingham to play at left back? Gets forward well, lovely delivery etc.  Might be a bit weak in the tackle but would read the game well enough. Who knows?

I doubt this.  Hasn't Whittingham been playing in the middle of the park for Cardiff most recently?

I hope the Clyne story is true.  My Palace supporting mate raves about him and it would remind me of the Ash Young and Milner type signing we were making with MON when Lerner first took over.

If we do sign Clyne and Whittingham, I wonder if Matt Phillips would be next - a third player from the Championship team of the year.

I dont see the point in signing wingers when we have Grealish and Carruthers who need some experience

does anyone think we should have an experinced and novice player for every position
e.g a right back should be eric and hutton
so folowing on from this why bring a novice clyne to pay at tight back when we have eric

He was head and shoulders above any other midfielder in the Carling Cup final.

Grealish wasnt starting in the reserves or euro kids competition. I reckon carruthers might get a loan at the start of the year - perhaps part of the Clyne deal

Hey, if you can play football on stilts then you've been blessed with a gift.

CB: we've been linked with Ivan Ramis, from Real Mallorca.  However it also says that O'Neill wants to buy him so I can't see any truth in the article, unless MoN has taken a cheap holiday this summer.

Wide players must include Adam Johnson, Victor Moses and maybe a return for Milner? At left back Taylor at Swansea and the Honduran at Celtic, Izzagura (sorry for the spelling)
