I cant believe anybody wants Davis back. He's so bloody average.

If he's on a free and his wages are fairly low the I think he would be a decent addition.  Seen him play a few Champions Leage games for Rangers and he didn't look out of place at that level.

He's hugely out of place at that level. Very much the sort of player McLeish would go for, a jobbing SPL player who looked inadequate in this league.
We have better kids coming through. No thanks.

Really?  I worked up in Glasgow a couple of years back and saw Rangers play against Valencia and Man Utd in the Champions League.  Being an ex-Villa player, I was interested to see how Davis got on and on both occasions he had a good game.  I don't think we will sign him, but he would be a decent player to have in the squad.

Why would I care how he played in a couple of isolated games when I saw him play umpteen games for Villa and Fulham.
He's where he should be, a poor quality league. I dont know what he would do at Villa expect hold back better, younger players.

I'm not saying we should sign him, but it's not unheard of for players to get better as they get older.

Of course it isnt, but he hasn't. Not to any level that should interest us anyway.

Fair enough.  Just out of interest, who are the better, younger players we have?

How much is Kyle Naughton realistically worth if £6m is too much?

Much has been said about the problems of the English team...there are many reasons why the national side struggles at the top level but a part of that is due to the unrealistic prices placed on English players therefore making managers seek cheaper but equally as good alternatives from abroad bringing more foreign players into the domestic game.

All of them. Johnson, Gardner, Herd, Clark, Bannan, Delph, Carruthers, Ireland... etc. I would have them all ahead of Davis.

Again, fair enough, but some of the lads above are not central midfielders.  I just thought that central midfield was a really weak area for us last season (especially after what happened to Stan) and that even though some of the young players have potential, we need some experience in there while they develop.  The Moroccan lad looks a step in the right direction, but I still think we could do with another experienced player so we are not so reliant on the younger players.  I genuinely hope thelikes of Delph, Makoun and Gardner can really break through this coming season, but still think we could do with that extra bit of experience just in case they don't.  The main reason I mentioned Davis was because we wouldn't have to pay a transfer fee for him.

All those players I mention can or have played central midfielde and would, in my opinion, be a better bet there than Davis.

I agree with your point about needing experience. But there's no point getting somebody poor or average just because they have experience or because they're free.

6m for Naughton? Christ, Spurs operate in their own world of transfer valuations don't they. I'd rather us go for Clyne at Palace if that's the case, Spurs have had more than enough money from us.

What a lovely spin. We can't afford it, that's the obvious explanation.

I would agree that, but I guess our views on Davis differ.  As I said before I really hope some of the lads you mentioned can really kick on under Lambert, but I do have my doubts about one or two of them.

Although I do rate Naughton, I think £6m is way too much for a player that is way down the pecking order at Spurs.  As others have mentioned, it is all good and well moaning about the amount of foreign players in the English game, but when the value of homegrown players is so over inflated, is it really any surprise?

Not overly happy to see us being linked with Chris Gunter again, as having seen him play for Wales quite a few times he has never looked too convincing.

It does say in the Mirrors headline we can't afford him so I can not any spin. Not so long ago we was overspending spending on players to get us into this mess.
