With his record, if Whittingham had not been a youth here,  most would be in favour I reckon. He put a lovely cross in to get us the winner at home to reading in mons first couple of home games, and I thought he shouldn't have been sold. Lovely left foot.

Anyone know how long he has left on his Cardiff contract? For a minimal fee I would be all for him adding to the squad.

One thing we must address this summer is bringing in someone who can put a decent dead ball in. It will bring plenty of additional goals.

That would be sorted if we signed Whittingham.

The two corners he took that led to Cardiff's equaliser in the Cup Final were pure evil.

Maybe so, but the fact remains he was and we saw a good deal of him to form our own opinions.  And as I recall there was hardly a 'the Bolton Defender' style uproar on here when he was moved on.

I wouldn't be totally aginast the signing, but would need to be a relatively low fee and wages, with him being seen as cover/competition.  I'd rather take a punt on an overseas player where we hope he'll turn into a superstar than a safe move for someone who'll be functional.  In my opinion anyway.

The prospect of Whittingham returning is underwhelming. A good Championship player at best, even as a squad player.

Indeed. Why not try and go for someone like Rasmus Elm? I know he's been linked with Liverpool but if Newcastle can attract Cabaye and Ben Arfa only a season after they were in the Championship I dont see why we cant.

I didn't see that much in Elm in the Sweden game yesterday that suggested he's a far superior player to Whittingham, and I guess he would cost a lot more in fees and wages.

I think Whittingham is a better player than Downing (on current form) there I've said it. Id love him back, far better than Allbrighton and would add genuine balance to our side out on the left.

Whittingham is good at dead ball delivery and his scoring record is very good. But watch him in games - his midfield play is just the same as when he was with us - it passes him by. Until recently Cardiff have been absolutely buggered for cash, so don't you think they'd have listened to offers for this midfield general? If not from the Premier League then aspiring Championship clubs?

Nope, there he sits. As for being a better player than Downing....

Not sure anyone sees him as a midfield general.  Good delivery from the left, certainly. A much more productive player than nzogbia last season.

I'm hoping that we're looking at better players than Whittingham.Cardiff is his level imo.

i've always liked Whitingham and wouldnt mind seeing him back,

anyone expecting really exciting expensive signings i think will be dissapointed, he will be in the MON mold when it comes to that,

but he can put together a team and get them working as a unit, both in attack and defense, i think we will be underwhelmed by the transfer window, and we will be working hard on here to try and spin the best out of the new players,
but when they get out on the pitch and start playing acording to his plan, i think better results will follow

I think we should be looking at bringing in real quality for our first team rather than padding out the squad with players who are no better than what we already have. I think quality should be the priority in this window, with any padding that's needed coming in January. Most injuries seem to hit in the second half of the season, we should be looking at getting off to a great start and leaving ourselves with room to beef up the squad in January.

I think squad players should come from the youth set-up with transfer funds/wages saved for bringing in the type of genuine quality that it is difficult to produce consistently in house (but who's addition might benefit the development of younger players). Is Whittingham a good signing and efficient use of resources? Meh, I don't think so.
