We
Yes, all we have to do is sell a player for a certain amount then make sure we can buy another, his club don't want as much for him as we've just sold the player he'll be replacing for, nobody else wants to buy him, he asks for less wages than his predecessor was getting (both selling club and new player's agent of course never thinking of pointing out to us that as he's taking the place of said previous player we must think he's better and therefore should pay more for him). Piece of piss.

Well if you look at the figures that ozz has quoted above there's a pretty big margin for error here.

I've clearly caught you in somewhat belligerent form though. Maybe you're not enjoying the Euros or something. Let's just say that I think it would make sense to do and that it would be realistic to try. You don't think it can be done. I understand nothing is black and white but I believe the odds would favour us. We'll agree to differ though - wouldn't want you raising your blood pressure...

Yes, it does seem strange how you think you catch everyone in a bad mood. Have you stopped to think why?

No actually it doesn't concern me really. If you can't stand a reasoned argument that's your problem not mine...

I think we can safely say that your idea of a reasoned argument and mine are, thankfully, many miles apart. Now, are you going to add anything to this thread apart from we should sell someone for lots of money and buy someone else for less?

I have always thought Whittingham looked very good for Cardiff. But I've never even hear speculation about him moving to a premier club. There must be a reason for that.
Good technically though

Daily heil linking us with poulsen the az / Denmark left back.
I thought he looked pretty good, but that was one game!!

Considering it's a transfer thread then that seems like a reasonable addition to me - one which a few others seem to agree with. At least I'm trying to come up with something positive we can do. Anyways I'll leave it at that for tonight, you probably should too - your tone suggests you could use some sleep...

Makes encouraging reading for such a dreary morning:

And Faulkner reckons Lambert is precisely the type of driven character the claret and blues need to get the previous campaign’s underachieving set of players “ticking again” next term.

“I think we felt we needed someone who could come into Bodymoor Heath, take the squad, shake it up and really lead them forward,” he added.

“There’s absolutely no doubt there will be ins and there will be outs.

“We’ve got some good players here at Aston Villa already.

“Maybe last season, due to injury or just under-performing, it didn’t click.

“But Paul’s a man who, wherever he’s been, as a player and in his relatively short managerial career so far, has got a lot out of whatever he has worked with.

I know it offers nothing new, but I like the fact that it continues with the upbeat feel of things...

The bit about there being 'ins and outs' is the most intersting part to me.  Another indication that they'll be backing their new manager in the transfer market.

There's still chatter on the interweb about us selling Ireland. Hopefully that's not true, we have spent a fortune on his wages, and just as he starts to believe in himself and the club we flog him. It just doesn't make sense.
Maybe Lambert has other ideas, but he is one of the few very good young players at the club. And if Lambert can continue the good work that McLeish has done with the lad's confidence, we have an excellent player on our hands.
A good manager will get the best out of this guy. Hopefully Lambert fancies the challenge.

Depends on the deal really. If we could get a decent fee for him from someone willing to pay his wages, I'd probably on balance go for it. I understand your point and he could be really good for us, but he has a history of flattering to deceive. He's probably our highest earner (or if not second highest), so he really needs to be producing at the level he was at City for it to be worth it. All that said, he wouldn't be the first I'd want to move on this summer. Get rid of fatty Dunne and try to move Collins and Warnock on first if possible - these are the real bad influences at the club right now...

RE Whittingham... I'd not be unhappy with him coming back. We need goals from midfield and he is a much better player than we sold. So long as the price is right I wouldn't be disappointed.

I've just looked at his stats and he really does have a remarkable scoring record at Cardiff ie 1 in 4.  Of course that's in the Championship, but even if he could manager 1 in 6 in the Premier League, he would be miles ahead of any of our current players.

I can't help but feel Whittingham has found his level in the Championship and would be average at best in the PL.

We don't know that those lads are the bad influences at the club. Whilst Dunne had a shocker of a season he could still be a good player for the club, the same with Collins. They are both two very good defenders that have got themselves caught up in some idiotic situations off the pitch in the last two seasons. Most of our players have been badly managed since MON left, and I reckon the frustration of this has made these guys act out if the ordinary. With a good manager that the players believe in I reckon we will see a vast improvement. Our defenders have not had much protection from midfield. Instead of selling what we have (they did work very well as a partnership under MON), we need to get an experienced midfielder to protect these guys and cut out the last ditch defending.
I don't know about Warnock, I haven't heard of him being disruptive. Again, he didn't have a great season, but you couldn't accuse him of lacking commitment. Again with proper management he'll recapture his form.
What Lambert needs to do look at the amount of goals conceded from set pieces and cut all that out.
We'll sell Dunne, Collins and Warnock for fcuk all, to replace them with experienced centre halves will cost us a fortune. What we need is a top quality midfielder to replace Petrov and play Stephen Ireland in the correct manner. Since MON left the club hasn't settled down, that has affected the players.
