I'd stick with Given for next season. SHA would want a fair bit for Foster, especially off us.

I would take the £3m. I wasn't very impressed with him last season, he seems to becoming increasingly injury prone (which couldn't be said of Friedel last year), he's starting to look a little sluggish and he certainly isn't going to get any better. We have a big rebuilding job on our hands but let's start with the foundations and build a solid core to the side that can stay together for years. If we only re-build the defence, we will probably need a long-term keeper next season which would mean another learning curve between the defence and keeper.

Guzan on a free would be a very good piece of business.

I have no qualms with him being sold and replaced if it makes financial sense and the replacement is of sufficient quality, but I do think some of the assessments of him from last season are harsh and it should be way down the list of transfer priorities.

Agree with this. There are far more pressing concerns within our squad right now.

Not sure if already been discussed by Simon Poulsen the LB for the Danes looks a goodun. Remember thinking this about him last time I saw him. Him and Kjaer in place of Warnock and Dunne/Collins. Also how about that DeRossi guy for Italy? looks decent.   ;)

De Rossi has been on SAF's list for a while. They desperately need such a player. No chance.

Let's not forget he made some fantastic saves last season. The one at Tesco in the last couple of minutes helped keep us up.

He has. He hasn't let us down.

Actually didnt rate Given last season. Maybe he had a weak backline in front of him. But I'd sell him at 35 yrs old and bring in M.Vorm from Swansea instead. Anita from Ajax and we'll have a bit of a dutch contingent in our squad.

Vorm - Given
Poulsen - Warnock
Anita - Petrov
M.Phillips - Ireland

Could get these all for the sale of Ireland & Given and less wages combined too I'd guess.

Of course he hasn't let us down but that is not the key point here.  If we do have another PL club offering us 3-4Mil for him then it makes absolute sense to sell him at this stage.  If he stays we will pay him somewhere around 13million in wages over the next four years.  If you add that to the 3-4 Mil transfer fee then there has to be better long term value in the market for that near 17Mil spend.  Get the decision right in terms of a replacement and their age and you still have sell on value at the end of a four year contract that starts this summer.  I'm afraid we have to start making sound business decisions around our playing staff and this one is staring us in the face in large capital letters.

I was taking the piss with DeRossi hence the winky smiley face thingy.

Couldn't agree more and the same applies to Ireland in my opinion.

I agree about selling Given if offered a decent amount. I thought his contract was a bit much when we signed him to be honest.

Given was our player of the season last year, IMHO. Selling him is the last thing we should be doing. We have pessing issues all over the park - not least in creating and scoring goals. We need to retain at least some continuity in the team.
