Frimpong is a really good shout. Him and Makoun could make a decent midfield. Not a big fan of De Jong though, he gets himself needlessly booked far too often.

Raid Toulouse for Moussa Sissoko or Etienne Capoue or even both and I would be happy.

Actually, any good young 6'2"+ defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga?

Frimpong and De Jong both good shouts.

But as someone said, De Jong must be on big bucks up there, not sure he's realistic for us these days. I like what Ive seen of Frimpong but doesn't he seem a bit injury prone especially for a young guy?

I hate Nigel de Jong, malicious, leg-breaking thug. I put him up there with Cattermole, and I want him nowhere near Villa Park.

Sounds good to me then. We haven't had a nasty sod for years.

Fine, why don't we bribe referees and give our players performance-enhancing drugs then? I want us to win, but I also don't want us to cheat. I have more pride in the club than simply wanting to see us top by any means.

I think that's a tad excessive to be honest.
Cattermole, fair enough but de Jong is a bit better than that.

He's a better player, but in many ways that makes his thuggery even less justified. He doesn't need to do that, but he does. His record on breaking legs is quite disturbing, and he shows a total of zero remorse for any of it - worse, it seems almost calculated.

Two that I can think of, and innumerable tackles which almost seemed like attempts. Even van Marwijk dropped him for his violent play.

I wasn't aware of that. I know he's a tough tackling player but malice isnt something I've associated with him. In any case, he's not essential. Frimpong and the next Yaya Toure will do. There must be some up and coming French African powerhouses somewhere.

Or just go and get Milner back (yes, I know... "why would he come...he's on a billion quid a week, no chance etc")
Or, if Chelsea are throwing a few out, Essien.

I'm not that keen but could really do with someone on the park the other team fear.

Tough tackling isn't as necessary as an ability to read the game, make interceptions and make a good, quick first forward pass. I like Frimpong, and he might not get so many games at Arsenal considering how good Alex Song is.

I once saw a South Africa game in which this kid Andile Jali played really really well in defensive midfield. A bit of a background check shows that the reason why, at 22, he hasn't yet moved to Europe is because of a mild heart condition a couple of years ago, which has cleared up. It's a bit left-field, and who knows, he might be rubbish, but that's the sort of option I'd like us looking at.

I'm not that keen but could really do with someone on the park the other team fear.

I'd rather they feared us for our football than out of some Wimbledon-like, Vinnie Jones-style fear for their careers.
