Apparently West Ham have bid 4 million for Grant Holt

Sign for West Ham Grant you'll enjoy the London life.

Especially the pie and mash.

I hope he goes to West Ham, I'm against him joining after thinking it through.

Not sure if I would have Holt over Carlton Cole and Vaz Te anyway tbh.

For the right package I can't see the harm in signing Holt. I mean, Carew wasn't much younger and he was a hero for two seasons. Besides, after Bent our striking options are average at best. ND is no good, GA plays for half a season and AW is still unproven and Holt's style is something we don't currently have in the squad.

I'd take Holt - an alternative to Bent (if he stays) and a replacement for Gabby, who I think has had his time here.

Word on twitter is that Sturridge is on the transfer list. Would love to see him line up for us.

Think he has someone like Arsenal or Spurs written all over him

Sturridge and Bent up front?  That would be good.  I agree with others about our midfield, I think we lack a ball winner in there.  I also see that Ireland wants out, according to one of the rags, if that's so, I'd want him to stay as I think PL will get him and N'Zogbia playing well consistently again.

I wouldn't mind Holt coming if we could get him at the right price.

Holt = Heskey = Harewood = mediocrity.

We need to build for the future. Gabby and Bent give us experience up front. Let's focus on closing up the defence and providing some MF experience.

If we tighten up the defence with a couple of good signings it will give the squad a completely new perspective.

Defouneso needs to go but Weimann will make it if he can keep fit.

Re MF, I think Ireland and Holman give us some experience but an additional dynamic / driving midfielder might do it ... probably not Murphy who I think is finally going over the hill. Bizarrely, maybe Hargreaves could provide that experience, without costing too much? ... I genuinely think that Herd, Bannan, Gardner, Albrighton, Johnson, Carruthers and Makoun have got what it takes, with some extra experience added to the squad and a decent manager.

I agree with you there on almost everything, Mister E, but Hargreaves is too much in the Holt-mould of signing. I'm sure we can find someone more appropriate for that role. The main problem is the defence - we don't just need players who can defend and organise well, but we also need them to be able to play. Attacking starts from the back, just as defending starts from the front.

In the absence of Stan, and at the risk of getting grief, I'd be in favour of getting a proven leader/quality centre midfielder in, maybe just for a season, to educate and guide the likes of Gardner in the role.  Clarence Seedorf would do this, and attract others to want to come too.  *Dons tin helmet and ducks*

In a player-coach capacity that might be an idea. Not enough, at all, but maybe a good idea, if a bit John Blackwellish.

Seedorf would be an inspired bit of business. Gullit for Chelsea type, but I think young and talented from the Championship are the most likely.

Marriapa, Clyne, Ince, Phillips, Zaha, Hoilett, Moses... these are the types I expect to see us going for.

This lot are good players and would make a difference.  I can't see them costing the earth either.  Some one said that if you buy a load of Championship players, you become a championship club, I don't believe that though.  Clyne, Zaha and Hoillet would certainly be worthwhile signings.
