I don't want Holt, but if we must have him the very most we should be willing to pay would be 4 million with a 2 year contract at 35 a week.... There is zero sell on for him, so every penny has to be seen on the pitch.

Why would you pay him 35K/wk when he is currently only on 15K/wk??

I'm not totallly aginst the idea of getting Holt as we're getting the guy who knows how best to employ him but I think we lack a string pulling magician number 10 if anything.
That could, "could" be Ireland though in fairness.

I wouldn't mind getting Holt (as long as the fee was sensible) but if we do sign him then we need to either get our wingers to deliver or sign wingers who can.

Bent 's lack of supply last season was a joke, N,zogbia and Albrighton final ball and overall play was poor and Gabby is not a winger.

Bent and Holt are both striker's who need good service to thrive and if we don’t sort that problem first then it's pointless having either of them. Hopefully Lambert can sort it and give Bent and the other strikers they severely lacked this season.

You only have to take a look at the table to see our problem are all over the pitch when you consider we only scored 37 goals and conceded 53 (GD: -16). Obviously a lot of the blame for this can be placed on AMs tactics, but clearly we are lacking quality players in both defense and midfield capable of creating chances for the forwards.

We conceded possession far too much possession last season so we need players who are both comfortable on the ball and distributing. As much as I would like to see it, I dont think all the back 4 will be replaced this summer but Lambert need to identify and bring in experienced quality in both defensive and midfield positions if the aim is to get back in the top 10 and challenging for Europa League places.

if we waste any transfer budget on Holt it would show immediately that the mentality at the club had not altered one iota. We know money will be tight. Why waste what little there is on a thirty something player with no resale value whatsoever.? Our priorities are in defence and midfield.

I cant see the problem with Holt. Having someone who can lead us and score goals is something we need. Lambert must have some faith in him and 31 is not passed it at all. True that he will have no sell on value but hopefully he will deliver.

We have a lot of youngsters and we do need older heads in there too. Many wrote off Keane before he came. Ok, he is a top draw player but his legs were knackered. Holt is not at the same level as Keane in skill but he is still fit and got the legs for the Premiership.

According to SSN, West Ham have bid £4.5m for Holt. By the sounds of it Norwich value him much higher but they'll do well do get much more than £6m.

Is that Danny Murphy on a free? I've always been impressed by him.

Of course they are, just as Liverpool are now going to sign the entire Swansea squad.  We haven't even got Lambert INSOTP as it were.  Blah blah blah.

Good player. He's getting on though so I'd want him as an experienced squad option but his wages would be too high and he'd want to play more.
On a free though it might be worth it. We really missed Stan and Murphy would be a walk in skipper in truth. Also, decent set piece delivery for a change.
We'd still need to sign another dynamic CM though.

Speaking of Swansea, signing any one of Sigurdsson, Britton or Allen would please me in midfield. All good on the ball. Britton and Allen had the best passing stats in the league last season I believe.

Yep.Of those players who are free he'd be my pick. We've got good young talent in the centre of the park but we saw last season when we lost Stan our lack of experience was plain to see. Murphy is a classy footballer and as well as adding quality to the side i think he'd also help to bring Gardner,Bannan and Clark on.

It's just lazy journalism isn't it.  Swansea and Liverpool have agreed that Rodgers can't go back there for any players for at least 12 months.
