I think a few of you are doing a disservice to Holt
Granted (ho ho) I've only seen bits of him on MotD and when Norwich came to Villa Park but he seems to have a bit more about him than a 'lump up front' that you hoof the ball to.
He's scored some pretty decent goals, not just far post stab ins, his one at VP was a well taken one.
Saying that, though, he's too old at 31 to be part of our young revolution.

£4m is as high as i'd go for Holt but he's s decent player. 60 goals in 3 seasons for Norwich is a good return.

I don't want Holt, but if we must have him the very most we should be willing to pay would be 4 million with a 2 year contract at 35 a week.... There is zero sell on for him, so every penny has to be seen on the pitch.

I don't want Holt but can understand the thinking....Bent worked well with Kenyne Jones at Sunderland didn't he?

One I want from Norwich is Anthony Pilkington, excellent wide player.

Holt's best years have been seen. Signing him now would be right at the end of his playing peak. If he wants a similar player, there are much better options out there for so many reasons. Holt would just be money thrown away.

agreed,  activating Mr Ba's release from the Jawdie's would be infinately better.

I would say a striker should be last on our agenda. We're very short in midfield and we need almost a whole new back line as well as half decent back up keeper.
If we've get some cash left after, or if we've sold a few players, then we can get a forward. I wouldn't mind Holt as a squad option, if we can get him cheap. He'd play well with Bent and gives us a different option and an aerial threat. He's brilliant in the air actually, which you'd want from someone like him, which Heskey of course wasn't (wasn't good at much else either). I also think that given Holt didn't start every game for Norwich, he wouldn't kick up a fuss if he started 20-30 games perhaps.
For me though, we build a team around Bent. If that's two up top, it'll be with Gabby or Weimann. Lambert can play 1 up or 2 up quite comfortably, which is good. Benty just needs service, and it doesn't matter whether he's on his own or has a partner, as long as we get him the ball.

We definitely need to flog Hutton, Collins and Warnock though. Shite.

Holt, Can not see it happening the wrong side of 30 Surely the board won't fool for these transfers again.

You mean 'fall', but I think your spelling was more appropriate for what Holt's transfer would be.

Didn't mean to be patronising mate, we all make those. I completely agree with you, in any case.

i dont know much about Holt apart from he played for Norwich and scored a few goals last season,

i would think when Lambert arives Holt will not be far behind,
i dont mind a big fella up front as long as he's good on the floor and has some degree of ball control, i always had a lot of time for Crouchy, and i also think Carroll will turn out to be a usefull striker.

he's just the wrong age for us though, he wont be getting better, and i couldnt stand another ageing striker wollowing  around picking up massive wages, we just got rid of one of them

I think a forward 4 of Gabby, Bent, Holt and Wiemann we would have a good combination of strikers and I can see with the way Holt plays he could bring out the best of the other 3. At 31 he's obviously not one for the future, but a cheaper, younger and better version of Heskey.
