I agree that Delph is a good player.

Also, take a look at who the opposition are!

The obvious thing holding Delph back is immaturity, he dives into tackles and hasn't too much in the way of positional sense. It may simply come to him later than others.

Sometimes ability isn't enough and you have to ask how many chances he can be given with players like Herd and Gardner coming through?
Why is Herd now 'coming through'? He's older then Delph is.

This time last season should we have asked ourselves why three managers hadn't brought anything out of Herd?

Regardless of age, Herd is only just emerging into our first team squad this season while Delph has been there for a while due to superior ability.  Different scenarios to me and Herd wasn't used as opposed to used and us not seeing the best of him.

I like Delph and hope it works for him here, but I'm increasingly of the opinion it won't!!

Some players just develop later than others.
Just as some players have the wow factor when they're young, yet fizzle out to nothing when they reach their 20's (Stephan and Luke Moore spring to mind) others 'arrive' later.
Peter Withe is an example of this. Until he came to us he hadn't set the world on fire, he was just a half decent centre forward.

Karl Henry anyone? No, thought not...

Alex McLeish looks to Karl Henry to strengthen Aston Villa midfield

• The former Wolves captain has endured a frustrating season
• Transfer could be subject to review of Villa manager's position

Alex McLeish has identified Wolverhampton Wanderers' Karl Henry as a transfer target as part of plans to add some much needed experience to Aston Villa's callow midfield this summer. Henry, 29, has two years remaining on his contract at Molineux but has endured a frustrating season that started with him losing the captaincy to Roger Johnson and ended with relegation to the Championship.

Whether Villa's interest in Henry turns into something more concrete is likely to depend on the managerial situation at the club, with McLeish's position set to come under review after the final game of the season, at Norwich on Sunday. McLeish has spoken of the need to augment a young squad with the addition of some senior players in the summer, and said after the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday that he expects to be given the chance to spend a second season in charge.

And that is what they call the final straw, get him out of this club now.

I'd think that not even McLeish or Henry's mom would think he was the answer to our ball retention and creativity problems.

Alan Hutton and Karl Henry. Oh dear what a lovable team we would be moulding. Could we sign Bellamy and Barton too?

I can think of many reasons to get rid, but press speculation about a player we almost certainly aren't interested in isn't one of them.
