  Good source on that MF?

Yes, Alex McLeish.
He said it some weeks ago.

Some of Newcastle's signings weren't bank breakers either - Ba (free), Marveaux (free), Cabaye (£4.3m), Santon (£5m), Tiote (£3.5m), Ben Arfa (£5m). If we could do business like that, I'd be very happy. Surprised but very happy.  Their scout should be on a hell of a bonus this year.
Just bear in mind who our chief scout is.

Paul Montgomery? He has a pretty good rep hasn't he?

This Summer; Newcastle got Santon and Cabaye. We got Hutton and Jenas.

And before that, they got Ben Arfa and we got Ireland.

We really need to start scouting.

Surely the scout would have taken directions from the manager? MON would have told him to limit his travel to the North East or as far south as Exeter. Even if Montgomery wanted to become adventurous and suggested that we go out as far as, say... Holland or Belgium it's possible he might have been out in his ear or hit with a law suit.

I agree, but Jenas is a loan. Hutton is a player McLeish knew well for a decent fee and age, and N'Zogbia was someone that seem liked the right signing a the time, and may still be. Given has been very good indeed. We've already captured one player from abroad and almost everyone we've been linked with plays in another country.

Well, from my understanding, our scouting has been restructured (or created if you like) during the summer and so we'll only start to see if or how well its working this summer.

Hutton has improved, and I think in time will be a solid enough signing for us long term.

Allan Carr's old man is the chief scout at Newcastle I believe, and I read somewhere he spent most of last season in France scouting.

Apparently when GH was here we where the favourites to sign Cabaye, would have been interesting to see what GH would have done with us if his health could have been better.

If those clowns at Newcastle can get it so right, then I'm excited by the prospect of us doing it.

Yeah. He was after Romeu and Forfana as well wasn't he? Forfana I still know nothing about, but Romeu has looked quite decent for Chelsea. On paper you'd think those two and Cabaye would have formed a decent trio in the middle with Bent, Gabby and one other as the front three?

Although saying that, he'd have probably replaced Gabby which wouldn't have been ideal.

Why JJ? Gabby and Bent in the same side have shown themselves not to work well, and the latter scores goals so is likely to get the nod in the striker role. Gabby can become completely anonymous out wide, so replacing him with a player more suited to the wide forward role in a front 3 would have been great. Downing actually played it quite well.

Just because I couldn't bare anyone selling Gabby. I'd always find a space for him.

I think he's capable outwide, and even if he's not totally on it he can do a great job defensively on that side. His versatility makes him priceless for me. I think he's struggling for motivation at the minute, his role changes every week and he's often isolated.

I'd sell Bent before I sell Gabby. Infact I wouldn't be totally against selling Bent this Summer (providing we got the money to reinvest and we were talking £30m ish).

Much as I like him, Bent isn't good enough for any side with £30m to spend on one player.

You must be forgetting our Scouse friends, and desperate King Cunny.

Certainly not. He's not even worth what we paid IMO.
