I'd have no problem at all with clearing out the whole shoddy defence to be honest. They've been very poor more often than not. I can see that McLeish and his coaches have to accept some responsibility for that, but given the ineptitude displayed over the last couple of seasons I'd be inclined to just let them go and bring in reinforcements, or use Cuellar, Clark and Lichaj. I just don't see the point or need to keep persisting with Dunne and Collins, and Warnock too.

Get cuellar on new terms and get shut of the rest. They are not up to it. He squad needs about ten players in this summer with 2-3 outgoings.

I read the BBC Gossip stories about Warnock and Collins and my heart leaped, please God make this happen.

Will McLeish be able to train up and motivate any new defenders though if we get some in?  I doubt it.  He's done a terrible job with the current bunch.

Presumably Warnock would be getting a seven year contract on 85k per week at Sunderland.

Last year, Houllier said "I'll do something about the defence in the summer" and we all went a bit mental, as we thought he was referring to doing a bit of coaching on them.

I reckon what he actually meant by "do something" was shift the fucking lot of them out.

There are so many players in this squad I can't wait to see the back of, and they include almost the whole defence.

Agree. I'd be quite happy if any of Hutton, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Ireland and Heskey went in the Summer.

Yep. TO have any chance, if he is still in charge, Eck needs to have a free run this summer.

IMO

Given Stay 1
Guzan go

So 1 keeper as backup needed, but Given does get injured and is 35, so a free but decent young one. Lewis has been mooted.

Hutton stay 2
Collins go
Dunne go
Warnock go
Cuellar will go
Clark stay
Lichaz stay

So 3 centre backs and a left back - running total 5

Herd stay
Petrov - needs covering and is 32, and no one knows but hopefully we will see him play again at some point
Gardner stay
Ireland stay
Makoun will go
Albrighton stay
NZogbia go - just think he will get sold
Holman - signed
Bannan - stay

Crikey it is sparse in there! I would say 2 central players, a good quality ball winner and a player that can sit with them and pass it a bit. Guthrie on a free is not a bad start in terms of squad playing abilty if wages are not silly. Beyond that, I just don't know. A real leader in there is a must IMO. Plus another wide man. Running total 8.

Bent - think he could well be sacrificed
Gabby stay - no one will offer what it would take I don't think
Weimann stay
Fonz - go
Heskey - please, if there is any higher power - get him gone.

Another striker will come as managers like their own, and I reckon we will need 2 forwards. For me, again I would be looking for young with ambition. Matt Phillips, Burnt Toast, Jordan Rhodes etc. All appear the right age and have different qualities. All in all that is 10 minimum though. I bet we end up with 5, and still lumbered with Dunne and no midfield.

N'Zogbia's hard work but he's obviously quality. If we're gonna keep McLeish I'd be OK with him going though.

If we change the manager I'd want him to stay.

The others I'd want out regardless of who we appointed.

Sack McLeish and get Martinez.

I think Hutton is improving, so would keep him, plus one of Dunne or Collins as cover, and Ireland should also be retained.

I'd like to see:-

Keepers; Given and Guzan
Fullbacks; Hutton, new LB, Lichaj & Stephens
Centre backs; Cuellar, new signing, Clark, Collins & Baker
Central mid; Petrov, new DCM, Gardner & Herd
Wingers/attacking mid; N'Zogbia, Ireland, Holman, Albrighton & Bannan
Strikers; Bent, Gabby, new target man & Weimann.

To go; Delfouneso, Makoun, Warnock, Heskey & Dunne

5 incoming players, including Holman.  The key in the new CB and DCM, as this is where we are very weak right now and strengthening the spine of the team is essential this summer.

Makes sense and is a good post, but you dont should include Petrov, all respect for the man, but he is 32 and how about his leukaemia... So make that six, on the other half. I do really rate Makoun II, its a shame really.

It's funny, pubey used to pay top dollar for crap players. What changed?

Presumably Eliot Short, unlike his fellow American owner, knows his anus from his humerus when it comes to football and finances.  Although perhaps not enough to know that Warnock is only worth about 25 quid.
