It is tricky to judge a player in the Dutch league, especially if they haven't played much European or international football. Alves was in his late 20s when Middlesborough signed him, and had just had a crazy season - including scoring 7 goals in a single game! Whereas Huntelaar on the other hand had scored pretty much everywhere he had played, and had played European and international football. Its obviously a risk, and the fee should reflect that. The £12m Middlesborough paid for Alves was wreckless.

Talking of youth Maz. Who do you think will be ready to step up next?

To the first team you mean? Take your pick.
Any of Carruthers, Johnson, Cameron, Burke, Williams, Siegrist could start to make matchday squads now with the likes of Graham, Grealish, Robinson, Webb, Lewis and so on not too far behind them (maybe another year or so).

It would be nice to get some points to ensure safety and have a look at some of these guys in action but with £1m a Premier League position I dont expect that to happen, even if they'd probably do no worse than the current starters.

I don't see much of the youngsters until they're prolific in the reserves or in and around the match day squad.
Which of the youngsters have the potential to get to the high levels like Gary Cahill has? or are there some that will turn out to be Premier League players, like Clark, Albrighton and Agbonlahor? Which, is fine for us, we can use them to fill out the first team squad. Or will some turn out to be like Lichaj, at 23 not a regular, or like Steven Davis, good enoguh for another level?

Apparently if you feed the output of TalkSport into Google Translate it comes out as a loud continuous fart.

You must be careful when doing this, left to long the faeces can back up and will clog the internet, then you'll have to get Dial-a-Rod out to your ISDN.

They really are thick on that station especially "Goughie" - when a listener sent in a text, he was announced as being a fan from Tenbury Wells - " I think you will find that should read Tunbridge Wells, there is no such place as Tenbury Wells" - Absolutely priceless.

Tis true. Although Goughie and Mickey Quinn do out do each other on complete and utter moronic levels of IQ on a daily basis. So thick I have to turn them both off, very quickly. When they try and sound expert on anything they are just making it up, and often clueless.

There's no point listing the stupid Talk Sport presenters, its easier to list the non-stupid ones.

The absolute best thing about listening to TalkSport is imagining Richard Keyes weeping salty tears of "how did it come to this" humiliation every time he is obliged to interrupt his sucking off of the Sky Four with a monologue about how you can get 4 sacks of shit for the price of 3 at Wickes this week.

Woah, woah. Gabby is an international and will be capped again in the future, Clark is a future captain for club and country, Albrighton has just released his difficult second album and Lichaj is a regular as of from this week with Hutton crocked.

I'm not sure Gabby will get another cap.

He made the squad earlier this season but had to pull out with an injury, didn't he? He was on fire for the first couple of months, he often has these mid-season slumps but I'd back him to finish the season strongly. Probably too late to make the Euros but he's still only 25, plenty of time to be involved again when Glenda Hoddle returns.

as opposed to the fee we paid leeds for a player from the 3rd division, Delph?

every signing comes with risk. look at torres, carroll, downing, henderson, berbatov, makoun, defoe, heskey - all flops and all had plenty of EPL experience and most of them plenty of european and international experience to boot.

sometimes it just doesnt work out. id prefer for us to stay clear of buying overpriced EPL regulars but no guarantee buying players from abroad will always turn out good either e.g. Makoun.

If Gabby gets more caps it will say much about our national game. Plus Gabby we on fire from the left cutting in and getting in the box. Since going up top he has looked no threat at all, and we miss Bent badly. Albrighton won't win any caps going on this season, although I am still hopeful that he will make it somewhere when he gets his mojo back and the team is set up to get balls into the box, he would have probably thrived under MON in fairness.

We need a minimum of 6 players this summer, and I reckon 1 of Bent or Gabby to go for us to click as an attacking unit.

I'd sell Gabby if someone came in with a £10mil+ bid.
I can't see anyone doing that.
