As much as i am excited so far with the signings we have made and the talk of others to come i am more excited by the fact this manager likes to play a passing  / possession game and i think our youngsters are purpose built for that rather than the backs to wall, sit as deep as you can shit we had with TSM. Bannan  / Gardener if played in their rightful positions with the right supporting DM / CM could very well come alive this year

It would not take a genius to see on the training ground how good at football some of the kids really are - maybe we have a manager who looks at them as footballers rather than the graft they will put in closing down and defending

Really am looking forward to watching us play some decent stuff this year

Herd was about the only positive from McLeish's reign.

If we had a decent manager Herd probably wouldn't have even got a look in.

Seems we have decent competition for places in midfield now , maybe anither striker, winger, left back and ron vlaar and we will have a squad capable of competing for a top 8 place or even higher.

Bannan was the one that most caught my eye when he broke into the team and Gardner is the big hope, but if you look who has had the biggest 1st team impact then it's Herd all the way.

I think Herd is average at best, and I can't see him getting near the 18 come kick off first day of the season. If somebody can smack Bannan round the head and tell him that every pass can't be a through ball or assist to lead to a goal, he might have a chance. But his appearances last year, made him look like a Scottish Lee Hendrie.

Herd is a good player but I expect him to be a squad player, I'm most excited about Clarke and seeing more from Gardner

I think his passing is a little hollywood Gerrardesue, needs to know when and when not to go long, but should have better movement this year for more simple passes

I was thinking this after I watched the Philadelphia Union game.  Have to say though, as Tayls pointed out, Chris Herd a "mare".

Bannan is probably in the same situation to Albrighton where they've been through their initial step up to 1st team football and now have a manager that will be playing to their strengths.  So no more excuses and if they aren't looking the part come May it's probably time to move them on.

The best way for BB to learn how to pick and choose his passes more effectively in the top flight is to get a run of games. He's never had that yet. If he plays well enough in pre-season he'll probably get his chance. So far so good. It is make or break for him this season at his age. He could be our Pirlo, or he could end up as Lee Hendrie mk2. It's up to him.

Would agree that this is a make or break season for Barry Bannan.  His size is always going to raise questions, but being small doesn't seem to hinder the two lads in Swansea's midfield or the likes of Xavi and Iniesta .  I would agree that he needs a run of games and he needs that run of games in central midfield, as he isn't a wide player.   He did give away possession a lot when he played last season, but the thing I like about him is he always wants the ball.  He always makes himself available to get the ball off the defence and never hides no matter how badly he might be playing.
