Good post Dave I was also scratching my head why he started with Heskey.

I can sort of see why, although I'd argue a better plan would have been to pick N'Zogbia after spending the week working with him in training on holding his position and not going wandering.

Good article Dave, I agree to a certain extent, but, I did think Heskey played well.
The tempo certainly picked up when CN'Z came on, as it needed to.
Have to say my main concern beforehand was the back 4.
One question: How good is Carlos?
Didn't have a great view of goal, but, having seen it on MotD  it did seem to be a mix up and Lesott lost 2 defenders.

Agreed Dave - I was pretty dumbfounded why Heskey played while Ireland and N'Zogbia were on the bench - slapped wrists for naughty boys sprang to mind, as did cutting off nose to spite face.

Cueller might have been marking Barry but was bypassed by the deep ball. Collins is more at fault as his job, going on how it was lined up, was to mark Lescott and he decided to needlessly follow the ball to the back post and leave Lescott unmarked 6 yards out.

Collins goes to the ball more readily than Cinderella.

As usual the team selection was the major talking point as very little happened during the match from a Villa point of view!

In what sense?  I would love to see a touch-by-touch analysis of his contribution yesterday because apart from one excellent piece of tracking back and a good tackle, I don't recall him doing anything that offered us anything.  He may win a few balls in the air but they ping off into the cosmos like random meteorites; his touch is appropriate for the application of six inch nails and his ability to hold up the ball effectively is even more limited than Bent's. Playing Heskey is like committing to only having 10 on the pitch at the start and his presence is defining our season as Downing's defined last year.

When i walked through Aston Park i could hear some noise and a few chants against the manager and yet when i got to Trinity Road there was nobody there. Had the Camera's gone so the protest stopped?

I agree with this.  I watched the replay trying to work out how Lescott had so much space.  When the corner came in Collins was the closest defender to Lescott but he followed the cross.  Now I'm not sure whether they were "zonal marking and therefore the destination of the ball was considered within his zone, but if not it was SHOCKING play by Collins.

You'd hope the following day these sorts of things are analysed and if so he should get a bollocking.

Good read, Dave.

My fear now, with Dunne out for 2 months, Clark out for a month, is Heskey is brought in as an emergency centre half.

I think the defense will be Hutton, Collins, Cuellar & Warnock.
