Cup Quarter Final 77 - Man Utd 2 - Villa 1
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:08:38 PM »
This was in the pub lunchtime on MUTV.

Burridge, Gidman, Robson, Phillips, Carrodus, Cowans, Mortimer, Deehan, Graydon, Little....didn't spot the 11th man...Nicholl?

It was great to watch actually. Little and Gidman looked fantastic. A pity Robson and Carrodus's careers didn't last much lomger (and Little's of course).

The BBC commentary was still fawning over Man Utd though! Gordon Hill...the future of England? Or did he suffer a bad injury too?

Oh, and our away kit was beautiful.

Yes, that was the one - fantastic goal - I was sitting on the side with my mum and dad, at the end it was scored. One of those goals that you never forget.

I was at that game, it came at the end of a week when we'd been at Wembley in the League cup final the previous Saturday v Everton and then Wednesday at Hillsborough in the replay.  At the time, an away trip to Old Trafford was for the brave, and only about 1000 Villa fans were at this game in a crowd of well over 50000.  We played superbly, far better than in the two cup final games the few days before, and were unlucky to lose.

That's true.  I watched the game sitting amongst their lot and watched the Villa supporters standing on the side periodically being involved in skirmishes.

Little's goal was a beauty.  We deserved a replay at the very least.

They always tried to pick you off on the way back to the station. Always an obnoxious bunch.
