That was the first all-ticket game that I went to at Villa Park.

We played well but Rossi's early goal killed us.

My Dad still says this is the best match he has ever been to. Brilliant opposition, great atmosphere etc.

I would agree that Juve were the greatest club side that I have ever seen. Platini Boniek and the rest were the Italian world cup winning team.
Just watching that video they fully deserved to win, but 29 years on we would have been awarded a penalty. You never got them in those days. How brave was Sid with the header.
Amazing memories.

I recall something along those lines in the Meaning Evil the following night but the trouble was on Trinity Road

He has never mentioned anything like that when he talks about it, so I wouldn't know. The one thing he always talks about though was it being the loudest he has ever heard the Holte after we scored that night.

I seem to remember there being a few skirmishes in the ground

There were severa l stabbings outside the ground, Villa boys being stabbed by Juve fans. IIRC the Juve fans involved .were English born from down south - some of the old C Crew waded in to them on Witton Lane and did not realise the Juve fellas were carrying knives.

There was an electric atmosphere that night but we were effectively undone by that Rossi goal after a minute. I always said that winning the Super Cup came at a massive price, namely the loss of Allan Evans, as Des Bremner was no match for the world cup winning Rossi. Truly the best team I ever saw at Villa Park.

Some mates went to the away game and that was truly hair raising as they were surrounded and attacked by Juve hooligans carrying knives again, bizarrely all wearing red parkas.

It was a bit grim over there. Nobody troubled us in the town before the game but they tried to ambush the coaches outside the ground.
I was also there for the England vs Belgium game when we got tear gassed. Back at the station after the game, the England fans were attacked by a mob of Italian fans, Police and Army combined. I have never seen anything like it, before or since. It is a terminal station. The England fans were sitting outside the buffet on the concourse. A roar went up and this mental mob came charging through.
A few of us managed to get locked in the buffet until it had calmed down.
It was a very nasty city in those days.

Talking of Rossi, I reckon this is the best game of football ever.

Everything about it is perfect. Even the old style telephone commentary.

One of the signs of a truly great match is that you can watch it 20 or 30 years later, still feel like it was yesterday, and still get goosebumps

Ha - indeed!  And who said the vuvuzelas were annoying?  After all those bloody air horns they are a mild annoyance.
