I think you have mis-read that. They are more likely to get osteoarthritis (arthritis due to wear and tear) than osteporosis which is bone thinning. Osteoporosis is linked to lack of exercise (bone mass increases with exercise) and loss of oestrogen - hence common in granniers not retired footballers!Back on track - sounds as if Mr. Teale has a arthritic lower back with some of the vertebrae slipping over each other!
