I know it's long in the past but I still get angry about this one. The Henry/Halsey free kick routine was one of the worst things of witnessed on a football field.

Marcus Allback was quoted after the game as saying that Halsey had asked him to ''get back 10 yards and wait for my whistle.''  So while they were getting the wall together Henry literally took his shot around Halsey without a whistle and the goal was allowed.

Fecking disgraceful and i've disliked Halsey ever since.  One of the most incompetent going around imo (and there's plenty of competition).

Can you imagine the stink Wenger and Fleet St would have made of it had this happened to them.

It's even worse than that because Halsey is laughing and joking with the Arsenal players and then signals to say, go on the you can shoot now. bastards

Have to say I think the Henry/Halsey thing is horrendous, the Henry hand ball thing is no more than a player taking full advantage in a spontaneous almost instinctive way, yes he cheated, and there was still a lot to do afterwards, if a player was playing for me with the World Cup at stake didn't do the same thing and give is all I'd friggin lynch him.

The Halsey/Henry thing is almost evil, there you have a ref working to give every possible advantage to the player to get that ball in the net, and then stands there laughing.

Beyond belief.

I was at that match and felt genuinely cheated to such an extent that I wanted my money back.  It was beyond appalling.  It's ridiculous how much sway refs have over the outcomes of games of football.  I can feel my blood pressure creeping up just thinking back to that incident.

It is easy to predict this: "7.00pm, Saturday 28 January, Henry loses Hutton in the inside left channel, Arteta's ball finds him in the area, he nutmegs Collins and bends the ball with his right hand inside Given's far post."

There - fixed it for you!

Villa will win it.  We'll get at them and they won't know what's hit them.

The worst thing about it was that the most blatant 'big club bias' in the history of referring hardly got a mention in the media after the game.  If it had been Man Utd or one of the London clubs on the recieving end they'd still be talking about it on Talksport now!

1-0 to the Arse. Terry Henry for them, causing R5 commentators to orgasm spontaneously.

Yawn.

Answered your earlier post though, didn't he!

If you say so. Did it cause you a problem?

Ive never had a problem with that goal, and tbh guys, your comments are way ott.
First of all, was it a fair goal in law? YES
I say this because, anyone who has played or been involved in football at a decent level knows and understands the procedure here. The advantage must always be with the team who have the freekick, and not the defending team. When there is a free kick around the penalty area in shooting distance, the ref always asks the attacking team 'ten yards or a quick one?' In most cases, the atacking side prefer what is known as the 'ceremonial' kick where the ref gets the wall back ten yards and holds his whistle up to indicate this. Once the attacking team have asked for ten yards, they cant take it quickly, if so, its retaken, and the offending player is cautioned, however, if the defending team, are not ready, or slow in getting back.organised etc, and the attacket see's a gap to shoot in, then they are well within their rights to say 'quick one ref' in which case they take it there and then. If it goes belly up, then tough, but if they score, then the goal is a good one..If anything, our anger on this goal should have been directed at JPA who was bent down with his back to play, doing his laces up!!!! had he been standing up, facing play, then this would never have happened..Henry saw this, and used it to his advantage...Had Halsey been wrong in law, then i would have been the first one moaning, but he wasnt. Its really a case, of those who know the law understand why it was a goal, and those who dont not understanding and being upset. One last point, there is nothing wrong with the ref having a laugh/joke with the players at that situation, it happens in games at all levels week in week out.

I'd agree with you to a point, but my problem came when Marcus Allback claimed afterwards that he's been asked to ''go back 10 and wait for my whistle'' by Mark Halsey.  If Allback was to be believed, and who are we to doubt him, then Halsey has clearly mislead the defending team.  I think anybody who knows the game will tell you that misleading the defending team to favour the attacking team isn't a role that a partial Referee should adopt.

Halsey commented after the match;

"I can understand their frustration at conceding a goal that way - but I'm under no obligation to inform the Aston Villa players that Henry was going to take a quick free-kick.

"You are under no obligation to give a whistle for any free-kick."

And he probably wonders why nobody rates him as a Ref.............................................................

but Halsey is standing so close to the ball he is obscuring it from some Villa players eyes, i have no problem with quick free kicks, i have a problem when the ref is part of the wall.
he's still only just moving away when the ball is actually kicked, he is causing an obstruction which favours the atacking side in an unfair manner.
you talk about the law, i'm talking about fairness,
if the ref is obscuring the sight of the ball from the players then that cannot be right, he might as well have had a red shirt on he was more involved in the goal than anyone else on the pitch apart from Henry,

definitely unfair practise in my view

The FA's website said yesterday that it should either be yesterday or today, I've just checked and all they have at the moment is the 3rd round replay dates.

Ok, that's a good start. I get back from America at 9am so would have struggled to make a 1245 game.
