I was at this one. I really thought it was going to be the first Villa humiliation I'd witnessed in my lifetime. Fortunately Platt came to the rescue. I'm sure there's a video of the game somewhere around.

I did have a chuckle at the "fock off yer basterds" at the end.

That was the highlight of my Summer holiday in Cornwall; it rained every day for two weeks!

I was watching that game in the Crown on Corporation Street. So, unbeknownst to me, was my future wife.

It still brings tears to my eyes that a Villa player could do that for England at such a crucial time. I believe he started the rest of the matches after that.

Shame I was too young to be cynical enough to realise he would use it to Engineer a move.

I want to know why he's always scribbling on a piece of a paper with a biro when a sub is about to be made?

I can reveal all:

2 pints of milk
pound of potatoes
pizza
tampax
Beyonce CD
Crisps (various)
Coke

For some strange reason our coach turned up early at Gresty Rd and was met at the ground by a couple of stewards - they then showed us through to the players entrance - not a word of a lie - they thought we were the team!

Crikey - remember half time and thinking we were done for, then they had a scramble right in front of us at the start of the 2nd half and nearly got a third. Then came the GT inspired fight back....

I was at that Crewe game and if I remember the story right Graham Taylor said he walked into the dressing room, saw all these forlorn faces looking to him for words of wisdom so came out with the "You got yourselves into this mess, you get yourselves out if it" quote and walked back out of the dressing room.

I managed to get a seat for the match.
When Crewe got their second there were old blokes throwing their cloth caps in the air. It was like being in a time warp.

Great player. Shame his head resembles a space hopper these days.
