We look a bit vunerable at the back, partic Warnock and Dunne, but have to say it is really pleasing to see Stephen Ireland have such a good game,His vision, touch ,awareness, is what we have been missing for years. No coincedence that N'Zog, Gabby and Albrighton are playing better, they are getting the ball quicker.

Albrighton is having his best game for Villa, and have to say the partnership of Clark and Petrov looks the best we have had for a while.

I think Ireland can consider himself very fortunate that Heskey is injured.

Ireland simply has to be given a good long run in the team now. He is quite clearly one of our best players.

As a beard-sporting gentleman myself, I must say, Carlos Cuellar always seems to sport some magnificent facial furniture.

Impressive stuff.

Its not as good as Olof's was!

Quite

Will any beard ever be?

Cuellar's growth rate is amazing, though. I recall last season he shaved it off, played a game clean-shaven, then the next week he turns up looking like Brian Blessed already.

I too sport a very impressive face wig and would have been delighted to see Cuellar and Olof in full regalia on the same team. How imposing would that have been? Mind you, when you see them both shaved, they are as imposing as antique salesmen in a small village.

On to the game. Very solid first half. Maybe I was a little harsh on number 7. He's done rather well. Long may it continue.

Really? He's doing OK, but he's played much better than this, I think! I was thinking I hope he improves in the second half, to be honest!

Correct, hasn't seen much of the ball TBF. He's getting plenty of tracking-back practice, though.

Oh and I hope that Ireland gets a good run now. If staying, I hope Bent can come on for one of the wide men later, probably Albrighton, and benefit from us being a little more creative.

The same old condundrum with Bent. He could well exploit Chelsea weakness and get on the end of an Albrighton cross. But he'd give us nothing like what Gabby is giving us in that position outside the box.

Apart from putting in some decent balls, he's keeping Ashley Cole in check and on his toes. You can't really ask for much more, Ozz.
