Saša Ćurčić;  any memories of this player who I thought was brilliant when at Bolton.

Absolute drivel for us.
Had a nose job, and something weird involving him and another players wife (or something) occurred and he was quickly sold on.
He carried playing into obscurity.

The man who makes Stephen Ireland look sane.
The following are excerpts from his Wikipedia page which is an entertaining read.

"The way Brian Little played me was very strange. I could never understand it. He knew I was better in a free role. He should have played me like a McManaman or a Cantona. I was never given a chance to show what I could do - and that will always baffle me."

In the end, Ćurčić's time at Villa is more remembered for his wild lifestyle and eccentric behaviour than anything football related. The trappings of sudden prominence and fortune didn't pass him by and in later interviews he admitted to drug use and out of control partying during his Birmingham days. One of the bigger oddities of his Villa period was his purchase of a double-decker bus, which he used to throw parties.

Known to enjoy his night-life and his appreciation of the opposite sex, he remarked: 'I would not sign for another club, not even if I was offered 15 million dollars. However, it would be different if they were to instead offer me 15 different women from all around the world. I would tell the club chairman: 'Please let me make these women happy - I will satisfy them like they have never been satisfied before'.

In February 2011 Ćurčić went on yet another reality show in Serbia. This time it was Parovi - the programme featuring couples that live in a big house for a few months while competing for a money prize - which he entered with his girlfriend. His time on the show was marked by drunken outbursts and insult-laced tirades directed at a wide variety of public figures in Serbia, culminating in an on-air physical altercation with Serbian rapper Gru. As a result Ćurčić was kicked off the show.

A lesson in doing your homework on a players character before you sign him.

A lesson not heeded as less than 12 months later we signed Collymore.

It helps to do yr background checks etc but can you really predict how an individual will react when given a bumper contract. I guess the fianancial rewards of modern day football can make  even the most mild mannered/ unassuming  individuals can suddenly go off rail.

I had lunch with him once in that Italian place that was in Fletchers Walk as he was friends with someone I knew. A lovely fella but mad as a box of frogs. My friend told me that Sasa said a few times that hated football but played it as he was good at it and it meant he could earn money for his family back home.

Great debut vs Derby, great performances in two games vs Leeds but ultimately a disappointment. And i thought he'd bring out the best in Savo too.

I remember thinking what a good signing it was - always thought he was excellent at Bolton.

We were always 'one' signing away from being a great team.

Curcic first, then Collymore.

That "team" goal against Leeds where we played it out of defence and he powered down the wing and rode a scything tackle was beautiful...

He married a girl from Weoley Castle to obtain his green card.
My mate's insurance company used to insure her and she came in telling them all about it as the family were all Villa season ticket holders.

I had a vague memory of him saying he wanted his wages to be paid in women, but this must be what I was thinking of.
