Our Nike kits never really looked particularly smart (last seasons were horrible) but all the other stuff Nike supplied - training gear, jackets etc - always looked very smart, I thought.

I saw Fat Sam interviewed the other day in his Macron training jacket and it looked like something from down the rag market.

The Nike training gear looked great but the quality was poor. I generally buy a polo shirt for the summer and most years they shrank.

I think this years was the worst. I left with very few items from my annual pilgrimage to the club shop this year. The kit the year we spanked the noses and had Acorns on the front was very good quality. They've created nothing as nice since in my opinion.

I don't think Nike ever made our casual wear, only the training wear, which was generally very smart.

I agree, this season's shirts are ghastly. I'll be interested to see what the new supplier comes up with.

I had a couple of Nike Polo shirts both of which shrank. I think they labelled them "players match wear".

I agree this season's shirt isn't good, but that's more to do with those awful checks that Lerner has inflicted onto us.

I don't know about this year but they used to do a similar leisure wear across the board with appropriate team badges on. Definitely remember red and black shirts with thin white lines on them.

Just had a look and there's definitely a Nike polo shirt for sale. There's lots of other Villa clothing for sale but it's not Nike. Any idea who produces that?

Ah now you see, that's a different argument. Having a decent kit and having a big name kit manufacturer are two very different things.

But the big name manufacturer usually make the better kits. Looking at Macron's efforts don't fill me with much confidence. They mainly provide non league teams in this country. Hope they prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Apart from nike of course, whose corporate branding is more important than delivering a design unique to the club and so each year their stable sees one generic design remodelled for each team 'lucky' enough to be granted their patronage.

If you want a new villa shirt you will buy one whether its Nike or Macron

Are you saying that people buy a shirt because its Nike ? You wouldnt buy a Bham City shirt just because they were supplied by Nike would you ?

Think theres been a bit of a hysterical and irrational reaction to this announcement, for petes sake the club hasnt even launched the shirt yet and people are getting them selves into a mindset that they will not like it whatever it looks like based on the manufacturers name.

For goodness sake .... Get off the clubs back a little and give them chance.

You totally misinterpreted me.

It's more than just the shirt. It's clothing, rain gear, replica gear, balls and equipment, outdoor supplies.. Nike is huge. You obviously didn't read my post carefully enough.

We have to face some facts.  Nike will only chase blue chip accounts like ManUre & Arsenal.  We could have a Nike kit, but it would be an off-the-peg design like any Sunday league side could get from an approved trader.  Walsall did this years ago.  This might make many of you happy to keep the 'swoosh' on our shirts, but I for one want to have something with a little more substance.

Look what's happening now.  Where are your Nike, Umbro & Adidas next year?  Liverpool will wear kit from Warrior, the same guy who runs Liverpool also owns Warrior.  Spurs are going to Under Armour.  Will Umbro stick with Blackeye Rovers if they go down?  Forest only retained Umbro on signing a 10 year mega-deal when in the Prem.

Villa said they spoke to 20 companies, & if you list 20 sportswear companies you know, Macron would come pretty high on that list with some scary names below it - Burrda, Admiral, Cabrini, Fila...

I for one an please to see Villa boldy plumb for a new brand.  It could have been easy to go back to Le Coq or Hummel which would have suited the dewey eyed amongst us.  It managed correctly the design will be sympathetic to our history, & we'll have a bigger range of non-playing wear.  Forza Macron!

I've only had 2replica shirts in the last 15 years or so, the England shirt for the 2010 world cup by Umbro and the Villa home  shirt before this one.  The England shirt feels like quality and is smart and comfortable to wear.  The Villa shirt is piss poor in design and quality by comparison.  Nike were goo d for publicity but apart from the plus point that they have stuck to claret body and blue sleeves, the design has generally been very staid and the quality and service both appalling.  Glad to see the back of them.  Like MArshall's designs but the shade of claret is a bit too dark and "West Ham" in all of them.

Nike - good riddance IMO.  Poor quality products outside of the main kit and training kits.  You could easily tell a lot of the stock in the Shop is just standard Nike sportswear with our badge shoddily sewed on.  The fact that we put up with it for 4 years was 2 years too long IMO with all the issues on delivery and staid design.

You know what I think most peoples problem with Macron is?  The name, it just sounds second rate, however lets hope they can bring some of the renowned Italian design flair to proceedings and people give them a chance to develop into this opportunity.

Dare I also say that for all the criticism Faulkner gets he's pulled off a better deal here than we had before improving the income of the club.  I know its only a small part of his duties but credit where its due.

Yep the Genting deal too.  We're still too far behind on commercial income from Spurs but these improvements need to be borne in mind when set against the slightly less flattering board performance when it comes to football decisions!!

If the leaked photos of Barca's  Arsenal's and Man Utd's shirts are genuine. Then I'm glad we've gone to Macron, they are awful.
