I think the other reason macron has been chosen instead of sticking with the likes of Nike is that that kit will be designed for us. Nike may design the shirts for Manchester united and Barcelona but we just have off the shelf designs which many other clubs also have. It's not unique to us.

As with all catch 22s there comes a point when a plan and action are required.  I'm wondering if there are any parallels to our current state of a need for ground development and the position we found ourselves in back in the early seventies?  Back then we decided to turn the Witton End into the (then) state of the art North Stand.  It was a financially mismanaged project BUT it did mirror ambition on the pitch and it did add a sheen and sense of dynamism and progress to the club.  Nearly forty years later, the North Stand having reached the end of its natural life (in my view) we find ourselves in a similar situation where we need to remind the world that, on the pitch and off, we have ambition. 

It is a catch 22 situation and, for me, it requires action on our part.   Only this time around we had better make sure we don't employ any dodgy dealers.  Partnering up with dynamic business associates and kit manufacturers is part of this, too.  Who knows, maybe the Macron deal is for big money and fits into this idea of being upwardly mobile and ambitious?  I will be interested to hear what the club says when it is all made official.

As much as we may not like it, football is now a massive global brand with PL games being watched all over the world. There is a massive opportunity to push the AVFC brand beyond the Midlands, beyond the UK, and beyond Europe; and having one of the worlds most popular and fashionable sports brands manufacturing your kit can only help to push the AVFC brand around the globe especially if it coincides with success and performance on the pitch.

Since we dont expect success on the pitch for quite a while then we may as well have Macron. Speaks volumes about pretty much everything surrounding the club at the moment...did someone mention apathy?

This kind of language is obscene. It comes from the other side of the Atlantic and that people here are only to willing to adopt it and the mindset that comes with it is why the Premier league and this country are in the state they are. We are only a 'brand' to the like of London-inhabiting Man Ure supporting numpties and if we need the likes of Nike to sell them shirts then I'm pleased they will be wearing red.

I say again it's a Claret Body with Blue Sleeves and the rampant lion on the chest. Any other badges or logos are trespassing with the exception of Acorns, a welcome guest.

I know the argument for going with a smaller brand is that we should be looking for a more customised/ individual kit, but do a mock up using the black Napoli away kit as a template. 

Looks like the best thing Macron have done by far, to date. 

If the home kit looks anything like this, I won't be distraught either (though I have a feeling the checks will be around for a while yet).

My point is that it wouldn't matter who manufactures our kit to the kids in Hong Kong, China, Thailiand or anywhere else that "Big Club" shirts are sold. They couldn't care less. If they're not willing to shell out for a genuine one of a club that's popular in those areas does anyone really think that having Nike or Adidas manufacturing ours will make the slightest bit of difference to them? I've seen Villa shirts in sports shops here. They go for just over $150 (at the moment that is about 75-80 quid) and in the sports shop is where they stay. Football support is growing at a huge rate both here and in Australia yet the only shirts you see are the usual suspects and in the last couple of years Manchester City. I suspect that if Hi-Tec or Gola started making any of those club's strips people would buy them in huge numbers still.

Does anyone know the actual number of shirts we sell each season? I've read that United sell between 1.2 and 1.5 million per season on average and Liverpool, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal sell between 700 and 900,000.
