I think most people want him to succeed, apart from a few mentalists and Blues fans of course.  However, I think it was pretty apparent to most that he wasn't going to.

We know that some of you look at these threads so pass the message on to those that don't. We the supporters don't care if you have a beef with the manager or you don't like the training methods or you wish to be somewhere else. You are living our dream, to be paid huge incomes to play football for the team we love, Villa is our passion and when we see you guys just going through the motions seemingly without any desire to represent the shirt really pisses us off... ...there is no excuse for the dismal displays we've been watching over the last few months. Next time you run onto the Villa Park pitch have a look around the ground, every single Villa supporter wishes he was you, you are our players. The very least we expect is a total committment to the club and it's supporters.

aye. Just a mental appointment. After all the fall-out with MON and then Houllier you'd think they'd want someone who everyone would get behind. Instead they probably chose probably the most contraversial option going short of DOL returning

Poyet would do for me. I'd give a manager all the time of the world, if he's to be trusted. The ginger isn't. Simples.

There needed to be a reaction after Spurs,  there wasn't really and the first half against Swansea was awful.  There needed to be a reaction after that too and we got the dross of Saturday night.  We haven't looked convincing for more than 20 minutes this season.   He HAS varied the team selection and for that he deserves credit, but I'd ask whether he buckled under public pressure to play that team and did so without giving any different instruction.  I just worry he's out of his depth.

This is a good point and I suspect that there comes a time when players completely lose respect for a manager and the Spurs game may just have been a turning point. Players need a competitive nature to play at the top level and they will have been offended by their manager sending them out to lose, regardless whether or not we regard many of them as mercenaries.

I got the feeling that the player/manager relationship with MON was never the same after our 7-1 hammering at Chelsea. My view of that game was that MON panicked at half time (to which point we had been competitive and were only trailing to a cheap pen) and catastrophically changed our tactics for the worse. Furthermore he was unable to change anything tactically during the second half. Following that defeat there never seemed to be the same level of intensity from the players or MON.

If Mcleish has already lost it with the players he may as well go now as it will only get worse. Some jobs just don't work out whether you want them to or not but I really struggle to see how he can turn this around without the full respect and commitment of the players.

There's no evidence to suggest he's lost the players that's pure speculation based on what appears to be wishful thinking. It's always trotted out by fans when they want easy answers. It then gets repeated and suddenly it's a fully formed theory.

Looks like he has started to lose Nzogbia.

Even if he had the full support of the players, he wouldn't be good enough.  He was a bad manager at Blues, with a reputation for poor football.  And that's what we've ended up with at Villa, as the world and his blind dog could see was going to happen.

That's the problem, thinking that 14 games is "ended up".

So the players completely ignore his instructions for the Manure game and the Captain can be seen arguing with him. The team are exhibiting exactly the same body language as they did under Houllier and MacAlister. I can't believe that it's a happy place to be at the moment.
