Today's the first time I've seen him properly dive for them.

He used to do it pretty much every week for us.

He's perfected the art now. I though it was disgraceful.

Why? How often do you think he gets kicked and the referee doesn't give it or see it?

Plenty, but watch this:

Young's blatant dive

When I saw it I thought he merits the high board event at the London job thing in the summer.

Yes it was a dive. But its as much of a deterrence against being hacked by defenders, you know, 'go in and I'll go over'. Defenders are either always pulling shirts, holding shirts, kicking, going through, claiming the ball ball did/didn't off them, handling the ball, diving (see John Terry) themselves.

I have absolutely no sympathy with footballers. The problem is that we're talking about professional football. You're paid to do a job and with that the more you  win the more you and your club get back. That is then reflected in your pay packet.

Its not something people like and understandably so but unless we go back to an amateur age then it will always be there. I accept it as part of the game. However, if its ludicrously bad (dives to win penalties for example) then it should be punished accordingly.

Sagna dived and feigned injury for Balotelli's first yellow in an attempt to wind him up and get him sent-off yet that is overlooked. Same with Van Persie/Hutton earlier at Villa.

It seems that diving/cheating is accepted elsewhere on the pitch and not commented on unless its a forward doing it.

Diving really doesn't bother me. In fact I find it quite admirable.

(Not so) fair play to Ashley.

I'll be really disappointed if Ashley gets anything less than full respect.

He stuck around here until he got an offfer that nobody in their right mind would have rejected, and regardless of what you think of his form, he never once looked like he didn't give a shit, something which you couldn't say about a few of our squad now.

It'll be embarassing if he gets any stick.

100% agree. He gave everything until the very end. We miss him massively in more ways than just his playing ability.

Me too. Gave everything for Villa for four years, was our best player most of that time, and never complained about anything. Left to further his career/play at a top club, and good for him. Since leaving he only ever says good things about the club. Model professional.

Today's dive was embarrassing but not as embarrassing as the officials' failure to spot both the blatant offside and the dive, and then compound the error by giving a ludicrous red card.  Same ref who gave is fuck all against Chelsea last week, falling for Terry's dive when Gabby was clean through?  Not very good is he?  Demotion should follow, but probably won't.

I hope it will do. Surely there are officials out there assessing performance and competence?

He should get some applause - he gave us good service, never let us down and never slagged us off.  He went to the best Club in the country and we got good money for him.  So no problems with him at all.

Downing can have dogs abuse mind the little weasal.

Ash always gave 100% to Villa and left us with some great memories. He was also respectful when he left and provided us with good service, he should be applauded and not given any stick.
