Have the club actually confirmed it yet? Its been about 24 hours since this leaked out so you'd think they'd have confirmed or denied it. Unless they wanted it kept quiet because he's lined up to replace someone in Jan.........

you're so naughty Gregory with your devious thinking ways, but here's a thought, it could just be an addition. Or if you want to look at it through glass half full terms, Heskey's off to Leicester.

heh. we can but hope. Trouble is, if we're skint why would you make an addition to the strike force? I'm not saying we've got good cover in attack but compared to other areas of the team we're positively spoilt for choice. all smells wrong to me especially the silence from the club.

What should they be saying then? Commenting on every bit of press speculation?

I don't think we're skint transfer money wise. Paul Faulkner himself in that recent interview said that they'll sit down in Jan and look at possible players. It's the wage bill that's the stumbling block and as it's been one in, one out, it would'nt surprise me if it's Heskey on his way back home in January.

At the moment there still isn't a story, so no need for comment. And I can well imagine the mass outbreak of knicker-wetting if out of nowhere the club said "Nobody's for sale."

He's on trial, we haven't signed him. He could end up like Omar (footballer, not The Wire protagonist).

Always amazes me people saying we should be scouting and getting these cheap players in from abroad and then when one pops up it's suddenly not an option.

This lad is worth a look, on trial or loan or whatever. He's played for Portugal and looked decent earlier in his career but obviously lost his way a bit.

And given his actual goalscoring record there's no way he's a replacement for Bent so stop worrying there.

absolutely. Imagine the internet reaction or uproar if we signed a lad called Cahill from Millwall, or some kid called Platt from Crewe, or some lower league potential like Rush from Chester, or some big grinned kid from the Caribbean called Dwight, or a Tiote from Twente. There are gems out there and we should be casting our net as far and wide as possible.

It was reported on the OS Media Watch yesterday afternoon attributed to Sky Sports.
I would have expected a denial by now!

You could be right Greg.

Recent behaviour in terms of selling players and looking to rake in as much money as possible will naturally lead to that kind of cynicism.

Personally, I'd like to think it's us being proactive for a change, and picking up a Portuguese international for a song due to his transfer status. The obvious question is if he's that good then (a)  why was it only Nice coming in for him and (b) why aren't they looking to tie the deal up.

His stats re goals and assists don't mark him out as a potential world beater, but against that he is still young (ish) and can't be a complete mug to play for Portugal. It's still only a trial at present - so we're more into Omar Cummings territory rather than a definite replacement for our better players.

If he does stay, he might be little more than cover for Gabby- a pacy option from the bench.

The big question is can he play left midfield and defend at set pieces?

The price tag of €3.5m tells you all you need to know. There were rumours last month that Porto were going to try and sign him in January. He's very much like a young Gabby, very fast but questionable technical skill.
