I have just figured it out.  It is obvious, in fact.  See AM on the OS today about the December games.  He loves to see Villa lose the ball & Heskey is the best at that, so that he can see how we defend. The players must be very confused about the precise degree of aggression they are being asked to use.  Spurs: too little; Swansea: too much. What about just keeping the ball and pushing the opposition back?!

I think the approach for the Spurs game was to lie on our backs and have our bellies tickles for 90 mins.

If Heskey starts in midfield again I will be so angry I will send a Shoryuken blast from my anus towards the dugout. Let that serve as a warning, Mr McLeish.

Our approach to the Spurs game was that of East Germany in the 70's/80's.  Go into a game knowing that you have little chance of winning or drawing for that matter, so, set your stall out accordingly which will avoid a humiliating defeat and on paper a loss margin of two goals will look not too bad given the gulf in class.  This will further be endorsed by our manager stating "there is no shame in losing to a side like Spurs".

It's almost Mcleish's waving to the kop moment.

Given today's news about MON. I wonder if the Emile Beckenbauer fancies a swansong in the North East.
