Well for the first time in over 2 years we genuinely have something to  shout about.
The last 2 were terrible appointments by the board/owner - in fact they were abject and ill thought  through in equal measure.
I am very pleased though he has an enormous job in replacing the remenants and deadwood of MON, change the attitude of those signed subsequently by the Clueless Duo and instill some confidence in the younger squad members, And put 5000 more on the gate. And some other stuff.

I'd be cautious.....it's not a done deal yet. Don't forget it's Lerner & Faulkner doing the negoitating, the same two who thought it was a smart move to appoint Houllier & McLeish.....they're well capable of messing it up.

Do you honestly think Lambert will put 5000 on the gate?

Too many never gave Ged a chance.  One mention of his 'ex' and toys were flung from prams and knives sharpened.  When we look at what he was trying to do - and compare that to what Big F'eck did - there is no comparision.

So this time - if it is Lambert - I hope we all give the man time and show patience and above all - show some respect.  For ourselves - as well as our club and it's manager.

Otherwise - who in their right mind would want to come to such a place?

Norwich fans in angry protest outside Paul Lambert's Norfolk home.

Police have arrested one woman.  The woman was drunk and screaming - "Where are you?  Let's be having you!"

This time last year it was Blackpool who were getting all the praise, before that Hull. Wait and see where they are in a few months before proclaiming him the next big thing.

Well I think the main difference is that Phil Brown and Holloway are quirky knobheads who just want to be famous. Lambert strikes me as more of a 'proper' football manager, and is without a doubt much more professional and, in my opinion, skilled.

Some interesting reading on our proposed new manager...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/13/paul-lambert-norwich-swansea

So lets hope there is more than a long ball game to the man.

Aha, that's the piece I was referring to earlier (could have been on anyone of three threads!) about Lambert out-thinking Rodgers earlier this season. Thanks for finding it!

The bit that I liked in that article was where Norwich apparantly dominated long spells of possession - out-Swanseaing Swansea. Also that they were only the second team to go to Swansea and come away with all 3 points.

It does sound that their direct playing style was a means to an end for their first season in the Premier League. Maybe he can blend his tactical nous with good football.

Some one also told me that Lambert likes to go back to Borussia Dortmund and go over training methods with the staff there and keeps his eye on new training techniques.

Quote Monty:

I hope we're not all disappointed.

I doubt it, he was the preferred choice here in all bar the OGS polls wasn't he?

It'll be an excellent appointment for us!

That's what I mean. If he doesn't do what we all hope there could be many disappointed posters on here and fans in general.

"“I also went to Barcelona the other week to have a look at the training and I spoke to Pep Guardiola." - Paul Lambert from the first article that sonlyme provided. That's what Monty wanted to see and it is encouraging.

It is encouraging. It's also very true to say he keeps a lower media profile than, say, Rodgers or Martinez, so it's harder to find indications from him about his football beliefs. I would also say that, given the almost ostentatiously possession-based nature of the other candidates, it would be surprising if part of Lambert impressing in interview wasn't his footballing philosophy.

Like I say, there isn't a huge amount to go on, and those stats from last season could look pretty damning in many lights. But he is clever, open-minded about change and single-minded in his desire to win. If he does adapt, he will be a good appointment.

Edit: I wasn't referring specifically to you re: philosophy, Monty.

Yep.

Also, a lot of bollocks gets talked in regard to 'philosophy' in football. Whilst we all want to be entertained, surely there's a place for naked opportunism too?

If you notice that the opposition defence is populated by midgets then I'm all for pumping long balls up to a big man and winning 25-0.

Don't worry about it!

The more salient point is that, at the top level, keeping the ball is pretty much a pre-requisite of a good side. The more games you dominate, the more games you win is a running theme in the top 4-6 of any of the better leagues in Europe.
