They have rejected it but it will be a matter of time. We will have to pay up 12 months of his contract, which i am guessing will be around the £1million mark.

Why doesn't the statement say they rejected it?

Why doesn't the statement say they rejected it?

F365:

"Norwich confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Lambert, who has been strongly linked with the vacant manager's post at Aston Villa, wanted to leave Carrow Road.

A statement read: "The club regrets to confirm that Paul Lambert has offered his resignation from his position as Norwich City manager.

"We have fought hard to keep Paul at Norwich and have not accepted his resignation whilst discussions with another club are taking place.""

Sounds promising.  Get him in back him and give him 3 seasons minimum.  We cannot afford another period of instability or we risk appearing to be a rudderless laughing stock.

He's on his way. It's just about money for Norwich. You can't blame them for squeezing us for the maximum they can get and they have to appear to their fans to be no pushover.

He could of course be off to Swansea, where by all accounts his favourite Aunt lives.:)

Even if he does decide to take up the Villa hot seat I can`t get too excited ...he  is not exactly a  pulse racing type of appointment.

What will set him in good stead is that he`s not TSM

If we offer them 2 million to sort him and his coaching team to get it sorted out ASAP then they would have to take it I reckon.

I then hope we give him a decent contract here, maybe 3/ 4 years and put some stability in place. Get his number 2 to come with him or let him chose a new coaching team. Then let him buy some players. I am sure he saw enough at Carrow Road on the final day to convince him of how much we need to buy!

Wow. A manager so keen to join the Villa that he resigns before the compensation argy bargy. When did we last see such marvellous enthusiasm?

About 12 months ago when one resigned by e-mail before taking the post?

The more I think about this, it is actually an exciting appointment. He's one of the most promising young manager's in the country. He's had one season in the Premier League, there's a good chance he's learnt a lot from that and I'm sure he can develop his style. He also has had exposure to European football at the highest level, and began developing his coaching in Germany. This could be great. Frankly given that all we did last season was defend badly it's all going to look great.

Excellent choice of manager and i look forward to the lambert era, we might as well pay norwich the compo due for him and his staff, after all they did the same when getting him from colchester and i daresay they will take malky mackay from cardiff in the same manner- thats football.

I expect this will all be finalised in the coming hours without much problem.

He will feel his stylistic instincts to have been vindicated by his first season in the Premier League. However, for all his flexibility with formations, I hope his instincts were towards attacking rather than towards the idea of a Big Man getting the ball pumped at him.

Well I would suggest his admission that he took Norwich to go and watch Barcelona train and then had a long discussion with Guardiola about tactics means that his long term goal is to adopt a passing approach. It's another admirable quality he obviously wants to evolve his style.
