Legion, I can't access youtube but I know cried when I heard this result in town with my mom and nan as a nipper - from the Argus of course. If there was one moment I could change in Villa's history it would probably be Andy Lochhead's under-hit shot in the second half.

We went in to town the next day to salute the players in their open top bus parade, which you could hardly imagine after losing a final now.

Fantastic find. I am going to find an hour and watch this from start to finish.
I was 13 at the time and our Dad really pushed the boat out for this. He took us all on a special train from New St direct to Wembley Central which included a meal on the train and seats right on the half way line in the upper tier. We also took along this old chap with us who had been to the FA Cup final in 1905 when Villa beat Newcastle.
When the final whistle went it was the second time the Villa had reduced me to tears, the first time being when Everton won 4-2 at VP in 1967 and relegated us. To this day, I cannot hear the name Martin Chivers without it leaving me feeling sad. I feel much the same about the name Steve Perryman, chasing back to clear the ball off the line.

Of course, thanks to Ray, Brian, Chris, Deano, Ian, Dalian, Savo etc the pain was eased over the years. I think for some of us of certain era the League Cup has always held a special affection, more than the FA Cup and even the European Cup. Although we lost that day, watching those 3rd division claret and blues on the Wembley pitch was tangible proof that we were on the way back from what had been a very dark place.

From my memory as a 11 year old at the time we played them off the park. Spurs had 2 shots and both went in.
I know this probably wasn't the case (I haven't seen the video yet)
I remember, as if it was yesterday, Andy Locheads shot bobbling towards the line, everything seemed to be in slow motion exept for Steve Perryman.
Even at the end as they were parading the cup we out sung their lot, can't imagine that happening today.

your right the stands would clear rather rapidly today, some good footballers in both teams. I always wear the 71 top to the match these days as it reminds me of a fantastic time to be a Villa supporter.

A most memorable occasion that i still vividly remember. We played the spuds off the park but lost! On the Villa players lap of honour even though we had lost I sang so loudly with tears streaming down my face. I really look foward to seeing it again and hope it proves how we were robbed

Thanks for posting this Legion.
I was 14 at the time and went down on my own on the train to Wembley Central, my ticket being on the side and my mates were behind the goal, so I gave up my bench seat (!) at half time to find them..course I could not (no mobiles then) but watched 2nd half from behind the goal.
Great occasion, tho the result killed me.
For Christmas that year I got the LP of the ITV commentry, which of course I still have, with a picture of Fred Turnbull on the front ( I think, at work at mo)
Great memories and will watch later to see if Perryman falls over....

That is a great find.  Thank you for posting.

I went to the game. I was 10. My two sisters and me had seats but Dad had to stand behind the goal.  I recall holding it all together after the game until we met up with Dad, and as soon as I saw him I burst into tears.

I've never seen the game. I saw all the rounds up to the final, but my fiance had arranged our wedding about 12 months earlier and the date happened to coincide with the date of the final. There was no getting out of it. (Well, not until a couple of years later and then it was too late of course)

I was gutted when I gave my ticket away, but I have always consoled myself with the fact that I was there that night at Villa Park for the semi.

Edit: Looking forward to seeing it now, 40 years later!

Should have kept the history with that badge, plain light blue I reckon.
