Its a pity Gardner is injured.

I'd go with:

Guzan
Lijach
Clark
Collins
Warnock
Makoun
Hogg
Irelnad
Albrighton
Bannan
Delfouneso

In a 4-3-2-1 system.

Bent needs to start so that we break their spirit with a quick goal. Hopefully up by 2 or more by half time and get him off sharpish at the break. Having won this cup last AM won't be wanting to give it up easily, so I don't expect any more than 5 or 6 changes to the starting line up from Saurday.

Been a long time since i've seen us play a Welsh team at VP. A 5-1 stroll for Villa reserves.

Welsh?
Yep, definitely Welsh.

Are you not counting Cardiff two seasons ago then ?

Nope, as I missed that game. Last time I saw a Welsh team at VP would have been when Swansea were last in the top flight.

Ads team would'nt be far off the team i would pick, but i would try Herd as the holding midfielder instead of Hogg.

Carling Cup games are usually played on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays, particularly the earlier rounds.

But our midweek games are historically played on a Wednesday.

I'm assuming so we have maximum time to prepare for the early game on Saturday.

It's never been a problem before, so why now ?

Perhaps the authorities thought clubs would be more likely to field a strong team if they have an extra day's recovery period. I agree I'd rather play Wednesday though. It will throw my whole week out, I will wake up Wednesday thinking I only have two days left at work before grim realisation sets in.

Gary Gardner is not in the reserve squad tonight. So I imagine will be tomorrow?

I reckon he'll be in on the bench with Johnson.

Regretably, we don't have the same selection problems.

We have a total of 24 players at The Club.  One is on loan at Gloucester, two are transfer listed and unlikely to be involved and five are injured.

Naturally, we will be full of beer optimism ;)

Good luck to you, ExLandlord. I'm sure you'll bring lots of support, which I suspect we won't, despite the low prices. I obviously want us to win, but I hope you'll have a good day out and see your boys play well.

Agree with all that Frank.

ExLandlord, was wondering what opinions are on Graham Turner... cos there are some parallels with the McLeish to Villa move! Has supporter opinion to him thawed, or do you consider him to be a "Judas"?

Tosser of the highest order....and that has nothing to do with his move to Conference Bound Slopbury Town.  Ran The Club into the ground and walked off with full pockets.  If he was on fire and I was bustin' I'd happily water the dandilions instead.

Don't believe the media hype about him saving the Club...the fans raised the money to pay off the pressing debts and he left us in a worse state than when he arrived.

Shrewsbury and Turner....a marriage made in the sewer.  May they rot together.

Well, you did ask ;D

think we'll win 3-1 again.

Just received a phone call from the ticket office asking if I wanted to attend the game (along with the Wolves and Newcastle fixtures) and was encouraged to buy the tickets there and then because they were expecting it to be "quite busy". It was a very informal phone call the type you might receive from a mate. Is it me or does that seem incredibly small time? Trying to drum up business over the phone? Seems like we might have to get used to 32,000 (or less) most weekends this season

I tipped Heskey to score at the weekend ( of course I wasn't being serious ) so for this one I will predict that Ireland and Jean 2 will get off the mark in a 4-1 win.
