I'm surprised no-one has posted this already.

Mirror: Alex McLeish has continued his shake-up behind the scenes at Aston Villa by showing the door to their respected scout Alan Wood. Mirror Sport revealed that the controversial Villa scout gave Lil Fuccillo and fitness coach Robert Duverne the boot days after joining in June. Now McLeish has also removed Wood after linking up with Paul Montgomery again.

My Dog shit mate commented.

'It's not so much that McLeish was the problem at Blues, more his inept and below par coaching team.'

Lil Fucillo? I seem to recall him playing for Kettering for some reason.

Let's face it, our scouting has been shite over the years. Not so much the big name players we bought (let's face it, I could have picked out Ashley Young), but we've found very few gems in the lower leagues/abroad etc. The scouting system needs an overhaul.

Is this really a big deal? If Wood's player philosophy didn't match Montgomery's or McLeish's then there's no point having him around.

I always think a strong manager sorts out his backroom staff from day one instead of just going with the flow so if McLeish has seen fit to make changes 'early doors' then fair play to him.

Apparently he failed his 'knots badge' when McCleish gave him an impromptu test, and he supplied the Ginger one with a substandard sheepshamk.

Montgomerie has been a good scout for Blues, and the players he and McLeish signed I reckon Blues will make profit on mostly. As such, they should be given a chance, and given a couple of 3-4 million signings to guage their competence. Sign a Scott Dann or Roger Johnson, or even a Craig Gardner style success then it would be good.

We had Ian Storey-Moore as our European scout under O'Neill. I presume he just kept flying off abroad every weekend to look at a player, then on Monday morning coming back in and saying "Nah, he's shit. Here's my expenses form."

Apart from the ones who arrived from Blackburn, Celtic and Rangers I think the only foreign player we signed was Carew, and let's be honest we could have found someone similar to him in the Midland Comb.
