Villa vs Liverpool 1982
« on: August 06, 2011, 03:34:29 PM »
I remember going to this game as a 10 year old just before xmas 82;  yes I know we lost (and associate Renee & Renato’s save your love with it!!) but I recall that it was a great game where we went 0-3 down in no time, getting back to 2-3 before half time, and then battering their goal in the 2nd half with Grobbelaar having the game of his life to keep us out (which doesnt seem to be relected in these highlights) before they finished us off in the last minute.
I think this was Jimmy Rimmers last game at Villa Park.

I remember that game very well, I think it was one of the last great games by that great team.

All their first 3 goals had an element of good fortune about them.

....and a good dose of shite defending too. I remember the Holte singing "what the fuck is going on?" after their third - remember we were champions of Europe at the time. We had them on the ropes with the comeback to 2-3 but half time came too soon and gave them the chance to regroup.

A week later was even worse - one of my worst memories ever as a Villa fan.

For some reason, I seem to recall Bob Warman paraded in front of the Holte with his Dog before kick off.

Bizzare.

Thats right, getting the Holte to join in singing xmas carols with Oscar the bloodhound, and it crapped in the goalmouth- that got the biggest cheer!

If I remember correctly the bottom of the Holte had snow on it and Bruce G didn't have to dodge any snowballs at all (no siree).
