Spain - Real Madrid

We played against Celta Vigo, Deportivo, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Seville, Barcelona, Real Sociedad

Italy - AC Milan

We played against Bari, Inter Milan, Juventus, Florentina, Sampdoria (I think)

France - Lyon, Marseilles

Portugal - Sporting Lisboin ?

Argentina - River Plate,

Real madrid is the most notable.
Played AC Milan in a pre season about 3 years ago ?
Not sure about Sampdoria.

We played Inter in pre season a few years ago, not AC.

A few years back, a friendly when we were in the 3rd division. Played Santos, Pele and all, that year too.

I remember seeing some pictures from the game in a programe a few years ago. I'm sure it was a draw.

We HAVE played Boca Juniors - it was a 3rd place-play-off in the Barcelona tournament in the summer of 84. We lost 2-0.
We'd lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the semi (Rummenigge did what he couldn't do two years earlier - score). Barca beat Boca in the other semi.

I went to the Celtic friendly mentioned. It was away and I'm pretty sure it was either 0-0 or we lost 1-0.
The Monaco friendly was at Villa Park when we was in the second division under Graham Taylor - mid-season.
I'm sure we have also played Sporting Lisbon before in a pre-season tournament.
You can also add Real Sociedad to the list of Spanish teams we've played – that was at Wembley in the Makita Tournament in 1990... what a crap two days at Wembley that was!

No, Sampdoria were in it but we played Arsenal in the semi on the Friday night (lost and were rubbish) then were just as bad on the saturday and lost to Sociedad. Kevin Richardson played for Sociedad that day and joined us a year later. Sampdoria played Arsenal in the final after we played Sociedad but like most Villa fans I'd had enough by then and went.
