I'd also be very interested in seeing how "not wanting McLeish but willing to give him an opportunity to prove us wrong" equates to two-facedness. If you could explain it in as simply as possible, madirishloon, I'd appreciate it. We all aren't blessed with as obvious a level of intellect as yourself, you see.

I Know I Am
Im Sure I
Am
Im Villa when Lerner leaves.

Me neither.

Reading the threads recently on the forum has got me thinking.

For me it just shows what the appointment of Mcleish has done to the fans of this club.

Its causing arguments and a feeling of hatred which runs through the supporters (and thats just on this site) the season hasnt even started yet.

I am not a Mcleish fan and i think his appointment was just an inept panick signing by lerner and the board which took no consideration for the fans into account.
The fact he was a bluenose is bad, but the guy has had protests against him before (at Rangers) finishing third in a 2 horse race etc, relegation battles with Motherwell, the worst Rangers record against Celtic ever, 2 relegations with Blues, boring defensive football.

I dont believe that he was the best guy for the job, Mr lerner does and its him who pays the wages so fair enough, but its a 50-50 gamble on his part and for a guy who up to now has been hero worshiped its a brave decision.

But would ANY villa fan have agreed with his appointment at the end of last season - No way!

If we would have appointed any other manager, we would all be looking forward to the season and getting behind the team and you wouldnt have this aggresive banter on the forums, we would all be singing off the same hymn sheet.
As it is Mcleish you have the optimists who say back him anyway, good, thats your opinion.
However, there are many fans who wont back him and will stay away. It doesnt make them any less of a supporter it just shows they have their own minds and wont back every decision made by the board.

He's not a 'Bluenose'. He's simply someone doing his job, I didn't want him either but as he has been appointed our manager I'll back him to the hilt. I'm looking forward to next season and hope he proves a lot of people wrong. Up the Villa. Always. Regardless of who is in charge.

It's like this every summer. It's what we do.

Legion, Figure of speech "bluenose"

Once you've played/represented the "other side" thats it, you get tagged with the label.

Stevie Gerrard, shearer and Thierry Henry are only "doing a job" but they would never sign for Man Utd, Sunderland or Spurs! It would never happen. They would always be tagged "scouser, geordie and Gooner"

Managers are no different in my opinion.

Fair enough he has got a job to do and as a fan i hope he does prove everyone wrong, but would you gamble the reputation of the club in doing it? And its status in the Prem League?

Dave, fair comment, but not when we signed O'neil.

I am some agreement with the point's gjh ,but trying to stay as positive as i can,we desperately need some good news/signing's to lift the spirit's otherwise i fear mcleish won't be given long by fan's who will be waiting for an excuse to critisise his appointment.

I have a degree of frustration with sections of the villa support who constantly moan and have a general air of negativity.Im not saying that Steve mclaren was my first choice but i feel the decision not to interview him may have been influenced by fan disapproval. If this is the case then those villa fans have got who they deserve.I cant really knock Mr Lerner as a significant proportion of our support will never be happy and i wouldnt be surprised if he has had enough of listening to the fans.I was very surprised by the move for mcleish and i just dont feel that i can step foot inside villa park whilst he is in charge.Im not going to list the many reasons why but it has been the most difficult decision i have ever made in many years of following the villa

I honestly and truely could'nt give a shit that he's from 'the other side' if that what's it's called. The Gerrard and Shearer comparisions are poor anyway, bearing in mind they both play/played for their hometown club and McCleish is Scottish.

I did'nt want him here because i did'nt think his previous record in management was good enough and i still think that, but i'll be down at Fulham on the opening day getting behind him and the team, because as fans we need to, whether our manager is McCleish or Mourinho.

What difference does it make if he's scottish??

Fergie to Liverpool?
Lennon to Rangers?

Some things in football wouldn't happen, this is one of those things!

Last time it did happen - Graham to spurs, lasted one season booed every home game. Was forced to resign. Even won the Yids a trophy!

See my point?

Yes, but at the end of the day it's like this, him being ex-blues dose'nt bother me in the slightest, but you're not happy with it. I think we should leave it at that personally.

New signings or not I would think he'll get less time than most previous managers.
