For all the "we dont want Hitzlesperger back at villa", this may cheer you up if Harry can work his charm....

'Arry wants him?
I reckon that's his agent, who also says that Fulham, Blackburn and Stoke want him.

You're probably right.  I mean agents do have a habit of talking rubbish e.g. NRC's agent claiming offers from Italy etc and then he's suddenly been linked to WBA and is close to signing.
Don't forget Benni Carbone's crazy summer when he had interest from Juvenus, Bayern, Firentina and finally Bradford

He was partly responsible for Bradford's decline.
They paid him a whopping £40,000pw, doesn't seem that unusual now, but it was a massive amount at the time.

He'd be a good signing on a free as long as he is fit.
He's had a pretty poor injury record over the past few seasons and his career has pretty well stagnated after an excellent first season at Stuttgart. I' m not sure why he seems to have been going backwards since his last season at Stuttgart but he's worth a punt. You dont get a fair few caps for Germany if your not good enough (Kevin Kuranyi excepted) and he could see this as an opportunity to get back into the frame for Germany.
If fit and given a run I reckon he'd do a good job for us and he appears to have a genuine feeling for the club.  As an experienced (perhaps back up) player I think he'd be an excellent addition to the squad.

My take is he's much better than the player we had before. He made an impact on his return to the West Ham side but run  out of steam due to a long term injury. Having seen a few West Ham games in the latter stages of the season it looked like his passing had come on leaps and bounds. For free I cannot see what harm it would do. Petrov is not going to impact much this year, NRC has gone, the jury is still out on Makoun and we are hoping Delph does something at last. There's no cash to buy real quality so..........

I'd never be unhappy to see the Hitz return but I really think we need to stick to a policy of signing a small quantity of first team starters this summer, a handful of players who would go straight into a strongest X1. We have almost a second X1 of young players who can add depth; Hitz falls in between. I wouldn't have him in my strongest X1. We're not going to have a load of spare cash sloshing around to bulk out the squad with older players so we need to be going for nailed-on quality first and foremost.

Hitz would be a useful squad player if a free - cover at leftback and late subb to replace the tiring Petrov. But he should not be seen as the core around which to build a midfield!

I liked him but theres 4 reasons why I voted No.

1) Players are rarely a success going back to a previous club.
2) His very best years are behind him. He's still good but I prefer a policy a signing younger players who will get better.
3) He appears more injury prone.
4) Even when he collects the ball 25 yards inside his own half you will get 10,000 people screaming 'shooooooooot'. It really does my head in.

I voted NO! We shouldn't be signing any player for any position that isn't an improvement on what we have already. We have a stream of academy players coming through and should not waste money on squad players. Buy two or three top quality players, like Bent or a goalkeeper to fill an obvious shortcoming. Then gradually blood the youngsters till they become established or sell them on if they don't make the grade.

I'm not sure that his best years are behind him. He's not 30 yet and his game's never been based on pace. Playing alongside Scott Parker for a season would have done him good, and I honestly think that he could come back to us and make an impact.

I voted yes as long as he is not considered first choice. As a squad player, he would be more than useful .I like the fact that he stated a while back he would love to return to villa one day.We need more players who want to play for our great club.

Purely on the basis that he can take a free kick.

He wasn't good enough first time around, so I voted a big fat no.
Lost count of the games he played in that just passed him by, he did'nt get involved enough for me and I don't see any improvement.
A good shot is not all you need for an effective midfield player.
