Sending the sky blues down.
« on: June 23, 2011, 08:53:56 PM »
Just found this on you tube. I remember the day well. Angel's first goal for villa and Merson scored a beauty. We have a habit of sending teams down don't we?

Probably my favourite game. Bought the matches of the millennium mainly for this game. All the drama, magic merse's amazing last minute winner and singing we'll meet again with the whole holte end swaying. So so good!

Nearly dropped my then 1 year old nephew kicking the kitchen door when Jeff Stelling announced Coventry's second goal. Was like an antichrist. Was worth it though just for the comeback. Fell to my knees when Merse scored.

Great game cheers for the reminder.

The great thing about Merson he was so unpredictable and always put in a decent shift for us!

What a game. We were woeful in the first half and as soon Darius scored, Coventry folded. Horrible shirt though!

We were 2 down at half time and I jokingly said to my brother that we'd win.

My main memory is of the Coventry fan with the 'We'll be back' sign.

I have a feeling our first goal came from a howler from their keeper (Kirkland?).

No probs. I was glad to find it myself. I think that was the first time we wore that kit, it was the one we used the following season.

Great game. I think Ginola came on for Staunton when we were 2-0 down and got the press plaudits when Merson was actually the main man. My wife came with me and three mates even though she was nearly a week overdue with our son. I had visions of him being born in the physios room at Villa Park!

it has to be said that relegating those deluded tossers was totally called for.
