Obviously has to continue to be Petrov; did no one notice the difference he made to the team when he came back in towards the end of the season? Well, perhaps 14 others did!

Whilst I admire your loyalty to Gabby and much as I love him as a player, he is no where near the class that Bent is as a centre forward (IMO). Bent's goal record in the Prem is second only to Rooney, by one goal, isn't it? Unbelievable record having played for unfashionable clubs and a stint at Spudz. His movement in the box is just brilliant.

Gabby is still improving and has quite a step up to go IMO. Can't help feeling that he's been "found out" a bit now the pace element of surprise has been seen. Like to see the pair of them up top in full flow though.

Well put, the only thing that i would add to that is if Darren Bent proves to be nowhere near as effective for Villa as he was for Sunderland, not so much Spurs, then i very much doubt there will be very many Villa fans thinking he's in any class to speak of, despite his stats.

For me Darren Bent has joined the club at a time when probably it hasn't worked in his favour, be interesting to see how he deals with it and how far his sense of loyalty goes.

Anyway good point but i won't comment further because its all a bit of thread  ;)

So Captain, actually I think Villa have needed for a long time and still do a real midfield playmaker, a midfield general, someone that has the ability to stand in front of the back 4 taking the pressure of but has the passing ability and nounce to get forward and support and direct attack, a real midfied dynamo.

So he would be my Captain, in short buy one.

Give Downing the captain's armband and let him know he is an integral part of the team we are trying to build, I can see him thriving on the responsibility and really stepping up

Dunne, Collins, Petrov and Luke Young all lucky to be first team regulars for me never mind captain...

No player.

The Holte End will be the captain.  Tactical instructions will be pass down from there to Sid who will relay to the players.  McLeish has the coin tossing duty.

The Holte End? Another not very vocal captain then.

:o - I'd rather eat my own earwax!

Give it to someone who may actually show some committment to the club... or leave it with Stan, vice captain Bent.

Good question and thread and thankfully devoid of childish insults.

I have no idea - suppose Petrov as Club Captain but if he comes back then NRC is better than any of the other candidates

No point rocking the boat.

Petrov for as long as he's in the side. I wouldn't mind Luke Young getting the gig though if circumstances dictate. Generally pretty consistent when he's in the side, has a bit of fire to his game and not afraid to dish out bollockings if required.

Dunne will hopefully be plying his trade elsewhere next season. Collins may be worth persisting with, at least as a squad player. But never captain material for me.

I'd say Petrov if he had the legs. I think he's brilliant at what he does and we are a better team with a fit Petrov. Unfortunately he probably hasn't got the stamina anymore.
Because of this I'm at a loss and would not chose one until some new faces come in.
