Serena Williams knocked out. Maybe we will get a female champion this year!

Only Sharapova left now that has won it before. Much more open than the men's version.

This Pironkova lady on BBC2 is rather smashable. By this I mean that she attempts a lot of lobs leaving herself open to a smash volley return. Obviously.

All the women I know keep banging on about how off-putting Sharapova's grunting is. Strangely, I can't agree.

Some of the shots Nadal finds at times are phenomenal, but Murray has made so many very poor errors in this game compared to others. The mental block he has at the latter stages needs a damned good coach to sort out his head. He has the ability, as proved in the first set, and was a couple of shots from breaking in the second, missed any easy forehand and has been utter garbage since.

Djokovic will beat Nadal unfortunately, although if Nadal wins it, how on  earth does it work that Djokovic will be ranked number 1, despite Nadal winning the French and Wimbledon. Most odd.

It's bloody annoying.  And so was that guy from Cyprus who groaned on every shot.  I don't mind the occasional 'Aaargh!' in extremis at the end of a rally but, every shot?  It's calculated to wind up the opponent.  It's supremely irritating and it's just not sportsmanlike, tennis, cricket, necessary or clever.  It's why I can't be arsed if she wins or not.

Since when has somebody who looks and plays like Sharapova needed a gimmick?  She's superb!

I can hear the guys on Fleet St tapping tomorrow's headlines in to their templates...

'Scotland's Andy Murray...'
