Not what I wanted as I do feel he is poorly qualified and there were far better alternatives available.

However, he's here now, so good luck to him in what will be a very challenging job.

The Board needs to acknowledge that the appointment process has been a complete shambles. They should do this by thanking Mr Faulkner for his efforts and recruiting someone with football nous for the CEO role.

This sort of cherry picking the bits of his career that suit and dismissing those that don't suggest that it's all about the Small Heath connection but you're embarrassed to admit it.
His PL record, which is by far the best guide to how he might fare with us, isn't very good.  Two relegations suggests his preferred method isn't effective in this league.  The league cup win was a fine achievement but I don't think it really balances the two relegations.

Interesting.

How do you think SAF would do on a Blose budget under a Blose board at the sty ?

Death threats from Villa fans ...well  unbelievable FFS it's a game.

I'd view these threats with the same sort of suspicion I have for stories of hundreds of Season Tickets being returned.

He wouldn't take them down! Did he have less money than say Bolton or West Brom?

Amazingly, now that he's Villa manager, McLeish's tenure at SHA has become a brave struggle against all odds.

I'd also wager that Wigan, Blackburn and Wolves all spent less than Birmingham in the last couple of seasons. Fulham too. The Sty owners reckon they've forked out about 40 mill since taking over. That may be horseshit, but they have spent more than other clubs, who've managed to stay up having outlayed less. Wolves have stayed up two seasons running amazingly.

That aside though, it's not just the money he had an issue with it seems, but he and the board just didn't gel. Randy's always backed his managers thus far, so I'll be curious to see how McLeish does. Though my gut feeling still tells me he'll fail dismally. Hope he proves me wrong.

I've read somewhere that Small Heath had the biggest net spend of anyone in the league apart from Chelsea and Man City.

as an alternative, a hibs fan on another forum i visit was singing his praises after getting them to a cup final and apparently playing some great football (for a scottish club)...

i think even jebus himself would struggle to polish the small heath turd...

thats not to say i want him as manager, as his record in the premier league is shit at best, and thats what really counts, but just chucking that thought out there to la la land...

I asked Hearts fan friend and he say he play shit defensive football for Rangers, Scotland, Hibs as well Small Heath Alliance.

Think of it as fans wanting to be Waitrose and would accept Sainsbury's but now we are not going to to be Tesco's or even Costcutter, but could be Lidl with a bit of luck...then Lidl do nice bits and pieces you never considered buying in the first place.  It is just a marketplace but we'll never be M&S never mind Fortnum and Masons.

I spoke to a couple of the Scottish fellas in the Blarney Stone last night, one a Morton fan and one a hun. Whilst sober, they thought it was hilarious and they just didn't grasp the logic of the board. After a few drinks they reckoned we are doomed, though the Rangers fan says he was ok for them in a grinding out results kind of way and did a good job in exactly the same manner for Scotland.

We will be hard to beat and well organised. Don't waste your money betting on the third goal scorer was their best advice...

I forgot to add to my above post - fuzzy Sunday head - that my riposte to the Scots boys was that McLeish has not managed with a supportive board and a squad like Villa's before. Many managers adopt a pragmatic style because it suits their personnel and budget. With our current squad, a couple of promising youngsters and a supportive chairman I think he has a chance of surprising a few people

Good luck Alex and let's get behind him.

You'd best get used to that sort of revisionism.
It's called 'The Harewood effect'

Had McLeish been on the verge of managing Spurs, every poster on here would have laughed and derided the prospect.
