I have a feeling that's Charlie Athersmith, strong claimant to the title greatest Villa player of all, who also played for Small Heath.

I think the fella sitting to the right of the trophies is Fred Wheldon, who actually joined from Small Heath and went to West Brom when he left us. He may have been the first to play for all three clubs.

All; this talk of CV's is getting a bit silly. So let's look at the CV of Aston Villa Football Club.
Since 1884 we have had 32 managers.
Only nine of the 32 have won a meaningful trophy.
Between those nine they they won a total of 24 trophies.
One of the nine, George Ramsay won twelve of those trophies. 6 League Championships and 6 FA Cups.
So the other eight won a grand total of twelve trophies between them.
Now I can't see any top class manager looking at that and thinking "oh yes I'll have some of that".
Yes, in our eyes we are a great and proud club. But prospective managers probably look at our past record in terms of winning things and don't see our record as being very inspiring and probably wonder if they would be better off going elsewhere.
And before you all jump on me and accuse me of running the club down. I'm not. I'm just trying to point out we are where we are and we have to accept it.

They'd find only 3 clubs with more trophies and one of those hasn't won the big one.

Edit: and from that same link, this is what a good season's trophy haul looks like,,,

If McLeish can scoop up that little lot he might get a few on side. Specially that shield, it's the dog bollocks is that.

I'm sure that guy second from the left front row is Des Bremner's grandad.
Were they doing Movember?
I think McLeish's first move should be to grow a fuck off fat moustache.

No it's not Des's grandad. Thats Des himself. ;D

Is that picture from the queue outside the auditions for Freddie Mercury - the Musical?

Completely underwhelmed by the appointment.

However, I'm not going to wish ill on my club and hope he goes on to prove a lot of people completely wrong.  Silverware and good football will make the humble pie taste all the sweeter.

Regarding the £2m compensation that sky have been reporting we have agreed to pay blues- has this been confirmed anywhere else as I haven't seen or heard it mentioned elsewhere and blues are still reportedly taking legal advice?

Just hope he proves us all wrong and I wish him all the best.

Now that it's over I think I just want to put all the shenanigans of the past few weeks behind me by sitting back for a few hours, having a couple of drinks, and catching up with some back episodes of CSI Miami. I'm sure that will take my mind off it all.

On second thoughts, maybe not.

Just heard Earl Barrett on Talksport. Did we upset him in his time here?

Seemed to not know anything about the club, fans or owner. Said he expected us to have a "very successful" season by finishing in the Top 10??!!!

I am not saying we will be higher than that, but it is not a "very successful" season.

£5.4m

I will put all of Dave Woodhall's money on it not being anything close to £5.4m, and top it up with the pennies left in my pocket that it won't be the £2m that it's being reported. I'm guessing it will be less and undisclosed because the LMA will tell Blues he had every right to walk because of they way they treated him and undermined his position. It will be a small compensation for acting like a small club.

Apparently he's gone back to finish his holiday and the press conference is reportedly on Monday.
Mind you he resigned by email on holiday, so I suppose he can tap ......err no I'd better stop for legal reasons.

Well, the die is cast. There is not a lot we can do about it now.
What I guess we have to do is get behind the club and the team and trust that we will be ok.
Talk of returning season tickets and boycoting the club are just futile. Anyone doing that is actually punishing themselves, not the club.

Welcome to Aston Villa Mr.McLeish, I wish you well, because you doing well will mean MY club is doing well.
Forgive me if I don't refer to you as Big 'Eck just yet.
