From the OS

When his team beat Arsenal to win the Carling Cup four months ago at Wembley he became one of the only current managers in the Barclays Premier League who has won a major piece of silverware.

What is that supposed to mean.

As well as some blatant spin and cherry-picking of achievements, I am surprised how such an important statement, given the circumstances, can be so poorly written, and even grammatically inept.

Forgot about that bit!

WTF? Absolute jokers.

Stupid decision from a know-nothing owner who has given up.  Ah well, fuck him.

You know what, for ages I've seen you post whatever the hell you want, without any remorse, regret or recrimination. Other people are regularly banned for some of the comments you make and yet as a MOD you seem to have carte blanche.

Practice what you preach and show some respect, you ignorant individual.

That's my firmly held view of Lerner, and one that as a poster on here I am free to make.  I have no respect for Lerner as owner of Aston Villa Football Club, if that upsets you, that's your look out unfortunately.  All we ask is that people don't abuse other posters, which I haven't, unlike you.

I would call my statement quite reserved, not abusive.........not like yours to someone who you don't know and have no idea what they have in mind.

Fergie only says nice things about you if you aren't a threat/rival to him, so that more than anything shows where we are in the footballing hierarchy right now.

I realize that they have to try and put a positiv spin on this appointment, but it is slightly annoying that they play the "Oh, look, the almighty Sir Alex approves" card as if Aston Villa has suddenly become a subdivision of Man Utd.

I think you'll find Ferguson was very complimentry about Pep Guordiola and Barca a couple of weeks ago - I'm pretty sure they'd be classed as 'threats/rivals'.

Only because he'd just been 'given a hiding'. Not much else he could do.

Friday 17 June 2011 a dark day in the history of once great Aston Villa Football Club. A day when we make this dreadful dreadful appointment and announce to the world that we are leaving the pitch for others to  compete.

Having said that he is here now so we have to get behind him. The best way he can start is to tell Downing  he is going no where and somehow persuade Ash to change his mind.

He's manager of the great AV now so welcome Alex.  Whatever your view on the matter, he needs to be given a fair chance.

For those who want rid of Randy, well I would do what you preach and tell us all who you've got lined up to take over, who's going to be so much better?

No idea what they have in mind?

Isn't that pretty obvious?

Out of interest, which slant are you coming from on that?  To me he's a good owner in that he's well intentioned and prepared to invest, but has shown over this that he and his board might not be the right men to guide us through the cut throat world of modern football.

So do you think he's a) a charlatan who has spent a few bob to get us on side, b) an incompetent idiot or c) both.

I simply do not believe the first and think the 2nd will be proven by what Mcleish does in the job.

No he hasn't.

I think he's basically setting us up to coast, Sunderland-like.

That's part of it, but I also think he genuinely thinks that is a great appointment, and to be honest, that's the bit that scares me the most.

Well we had the Celtic approach in MoN and now we try the Rangers version.
Looks like we have foregone our England, and even Ireland, nursery days. Roll on providing the proving ground for the Scottish National team..no goalies please.
Major cataclymic changes in the offing now.

Devastated. The manager that Faulkner talks about in his statement sounds alright, shame the one we've got is so very shit. The most depressing thing is that Randy has either given up or gone mad.

Alex, please prove me wrong. UTV

A poor choice, as it offers little else than hope. But then, that is where I started. Good luck!

Still flys in the face of John M's opening line though.

I don't care what Ferguson says about us whether positive or negative.  He said something positive and some complain, that day when we were 'Dour and uncompromising' some complained.

Bottom line is he's a great Manager who I have huge respect for and wish he'd joined us in 1985.

Not to me it isn't.  It's very possible they've hired the best man they can get (and that is a scarey thought!) and intend to back him as they did MON and Houllier.
